Default Is this a problem?

I'm pretty sure it is, but what should I do or is there an easy fix?

I was driving home this afternoon and was going down a hill and decided to drop the tranny in 1st. (auto) The tranny shifted fine, but the indicator said it was in 2nd. The tranny shifts fine. It stays in second when I put the shifter there and it stays in 1st when I put it there too. It just indicates the wrong position.

the trans will indicate 1st gear at the column when maually shifted, but the trans will NOT engage 1st gear untill you slow below 19 mph..

yea, I have tried

its a safety so you dontdrop the trans on the highway and coast to a stop...

although goin from OD to 2nd at high rpm could blow a few seals...

are you still moving when you do this. . .it may be you have to come to a complete stop in order for the tranny to be manualy placed in 1st.

I was going like 10mph when I tried it the first time. Then I tried a few times while stopped. I tried again after the trans warmed up. Nothing, the indicator does not move to "1". However, I can feel the trans shifting down into first. I knew about the slowing down below 19mph for the trans to actualy shift, but the indicator should say "1" when I put the gear selector in that position.

Side note:
I was pulling a car out of the ditch a month ago and I was jumping in and out of the truck while getting the tow strap situated, when the out of park alarm went off. I THOUGHT I put it in park, but when I jumped out of the truck the alarm started going off. I jumped back in and moved the shifter a little. It was almost like I was between park and "R". I may not have put the shifter fully in park. It could have been my fault, I guess I'll never know for sure.
