How do you know if the trannys shot?
Well I know a lot about gas engines(not toooo much about trannys though)
I have been test driving a lot of rams trying to find the right one for my price. A couple I have test drove you can tell it has a lot of get up and go. A couple others you will pin it and it will slowly climb speed, but doesnt seem like anything is slipping. Basicly I will pin it at about 40mph, and it will downshift fine. It only gains 10mph about every 5seconds though. To me(and supposedly the dealership) that is normal. Other rams that I have driven don't do that though.
So how do you know if the tranny is shot?

it is hard to tell some times with a trans.
a clogged trans filter will make it act rough like its faulty...
same for non adjusted bands.
you should check the trans fluid (auto) after a test drive so its warm. look for a dark brown/ black color (no good), red is fresh/ good , low level and bad odor like its burned...
it should shift easity from/ to every gear manually sitting and in motion.
try the OD button on and off to check for OD actuation (above 40mph).
listen for loud noises when it shifts
feel for abnormal shakes/ vibrations at higher speeds (u joints)
basically, spend more than 15 minutes with it ..
make the people nervous. they will break eventually if they know something is wrong

haha sounds good to me. I jus got done test driving a LOT newer truck.. I'm going to post a thread asking yall what you think! I think the tranny is good. When you pin it, it takes a second(normal i know) for it to downshift to the right gear, then you can feel the turbo kick in. This truck feels a lot stronger. I am just worried because it was bought at an auction. Everything seems to run great though!
