Default EXHAUST MANIFOLD WARP

Hey everyone...

i'm having issues with the exhaust manifold warping. this is the third one and the last dodgemechanic said that it was a 'problem' they were having on towing vehicles. this truck is used to pull a trailer cross country for motorcycle rallies and is on the go most of the year.

does anyone else have the same problem or know of any solutions?

thanks for your time and help in advance....

first, install an EGT guage, becouse I'll bet your running hot. second,Opening up your EXH. will lower your EGT's.Remove the muffler, & cat if you have one. Maybe even get a new manifold & have it ceramic coated.

THREEmanifolds ?!?!?

What kinda trailer are you towing?

Do you have gauges installed yet?

Like was mentioned earlier ... open up your intake and exhaust. I'd go witha 4" exhaust from the turbo back either straight piping it or with an Aero muffler.

first off, thanks mayfair and oilburner for both your replies...

second, this isn't my truck but i needed some answers. I work for the American Motor Drome Wall of Death and this is our truck that pulls the 40ft trailer with sleeping quarters and spare motorcycles everywhere we go.

so to anwer a few of yall's questions:
yes mayfair three manifolds, all of which was replaced before i joined up with them in september.
and its a 40ft gooseneck with about 13k or 14k being pulled so its being over worked and now its all making sense.
and only stock gauges right now....

the only problem i see is the truck has to pass California standards so that's the next question about this.... do you have any suggestions about opening up the system and still being able to pass Cali regs????

thanks again

your best bet would be to get one of them fancy ATS three piece exhaust manifolds, loose the stock muffler, but keep the cat if it is an 04.5 due to california emissions regs. some guy's in california have removed the cat, only to put it back on when it came time for emissions. and if your wondering, I only saw about 50F reduction in EGT's when mine ran away.

this is THE first time I have ever heard about the exhaust manifold warping on a pulling truck. I can understand the first having a problem, but the other two sounds more like an instalation error from the service tech.

the ATS manifold being three pieces allows for expansion to hopefully solve this problem.

I'd still like to see you install an EGT gauge. Open up your air filter with something better as well as your exhaust. Since you can't straight pipe it, put an Aero on to help with the flow.

The Wall of Death huh? Is that the ball, or the wooden wall like you see at Sturgis? Either way ... if you are the one riding, you've got balz that CLANK !!

The EGT gauges is a must for any truck towing heavy loads. Does this truck have a programmer or chip installed?

I agree with the ATS manifold... but as for CA emissions... there are none for the diesels at this time. I would recommend getting a CAI & open the exhaust up some with a free flowing muffler setup... this will reduce your egts alot and solve your overheating manifold problem.

I cant understand the manifold warping. Unless the truck is pumped up. My 04 is stock and I yank up to 26k on a regular basis 750 miles a week and no trouble yet. Im with Drew, It sounds like an install error on the second two manifolds.
