yup. . .you can. you just need to have an adapter plate since the bell houseing wont match up. the re-engineered alison 1000 GM has has a lower final drive ratio than the 48RE so your freeway speeds will be quite low.
you would be better off money wise with a valve body, billet torque converter, and billet input shaft. there is some computer tweaking that has to go on for it to work with the Cummins. . .who knows what kind of computer adjustments would have to go on for a 2nd gen 24 valve.
Well i am having problems with my stock tranny anyway so i am going to replace it..i think its ethier the torque converter isnt locking up right(not gettingenough pressure) or the first clutch is burnt out...[:@]and i want something that can take a hit and my father worked at allison for 17 years he just wasnt sure if it would work with the cummins...i have never messed with my trucks computer how hard is that...
