Default Need tire help

I am looking to buy new tires. Presently have Michelin 265/70/17 E rated. I am looking to go up in size still want E rated because I will be towing a travel trailer and also a dump trailer. Any and all suggestions / recomendations welcome. I hear alot about Procomp, Toyo, Coopers, and BFG. What should I stay away from. I've heard if I'm towing stay away from M/T's! What brand, size, and type is best to go with? These will be daily driver tires and with the weather in Oregon (esecially now with snow), I need a good dependable tire. [/align]

Also wanted to know if I should or shouldn't level if I'm going to be towing. I know I know air bags will take care of this issue but any comments on the issue are appreciated.

So far, I haven't heard one single complaint about Pro Comps. As a matter of fact, Steve just got 70K out of his.

I been reading Steve'sposts and it sounds like his Procomps are wearing great, but I don't think he tows so I'm wondering how towing would affect the mileage. I've also been reading your posts, your trying to decide on tires also and you have a trailer so I'm very interested to see which way you go. For the past week we've been getting alot of snow, at least around my place, I live at the base of Mt Hood in Oregon. I'm sure Lilfroger has heard of it. With my crappy Michelin tires (265/70/17) I slid off of a private road and into a field fence. [sm=yikesomg.gif]Luckly only a couple of scratches, but it time to get new tires before I really do damage. I really need help!

You are going to lose a little mpg's with a taller tire and/or more agressive tread. There is no getting around it. You may be able to go with a more agressive tire in the same size if your worried about milage but living where you do and what you just said happened, sounds like you definatly need something that will give you a better bite on the road.

if you are going to tow, I wouldnt worry about a leveling kit or you'll have the front end jacked WAY up in the air. as far as tire size and wanting to go up in size, no more than a 285 size will keep things close to spec.

I dont tow much, but I do haul things with my truck, but I'm looking at something around about a 35 or smaller.

Thanks you guys for the info. Buzzy I know I'm going to lose mpg's, that's not my main concern. I probably should have mentioned I also go offroad alot to haul firewood so I want a tire that will handle that. My other truck (1975 chevy 4x4) has m/t's but those are not too good other than offroad. I was hoping someone who tows a TT or a 5ver and also goes offroad would respond. Interested in what their running. Sounds like alot of folks on here are runnning the procomps or BFG's. So what do you all think of Toyo a/t's good / bad. As you can tell I'm looking for a good all around tire. I know none are perfect for all applications, just want something close. I really like the looks of a 35" just need to make a decision

My opinion of the bfgs (that are on my truck) are Just Say No!!! They suck, and when you think they can not suck anymore, they prove you wrong. I have bad wet raod manners. I do nto feel very confortable off road with them. I just can not justify changing them until they wear out.

I had Cooper Discoverer AT's on my old dually, wich towed alot. They ran smooth on the hiway, & wore well. They also have a fairly agressive tread pattern that should do well off-road, but that truck was 2wd, so I don't know for sure.
