Poor mileage is really ticking me off!
When I had my '06 2wd I was getting 15mpg pulling my 5x10 cargo trailer around town, 17mpg hwy and on the way to trade it in 23mpg empty! It started off at around 10mpg when it was new but climbed to the mentioned figures in just under 17k miles. I traded it in on an '06 4x4(both had 3.73's) with 5k miles and got around 16mpg on the way back home (400 miles). I figured it was just part of the breaking in....again. I just turned 18500 miles and average around 12.5mpg every week (pull my trailer 80% of the week). Even without it I cant get any better than 16-17mpg with mixed driving. I got an oil analysis done and the iron was a bit high they said but it is likely due to the engine being new or some hard driving. Is it slow to break in? I am just getting so annoyed with this and since the truck had a missing kitty when I bought it I amnervous about taking it to the dealer for any computer flashes (if that would even help). Mostly just venting here.[:@]
Sorry but 2wd to 4wd should not yeild a 5mpg loss. I expected some difference due to the additonal rotating parts/weight but the amount of difference in mpg's says that something just isnt right with one of the trucks. I am considering a smarty jr. to help out but just am not willing to throw down the cash right on that right now, not should I hve to in order to get decent mileage.
This is just an idea, maybe the computer is programmed slightly different? Ormaybe they have different transmissions, if the same trannythere could be different ratiosin the transmission itself. Just throwing that out there, sounds like something is definately different between the two trucks. How about your tires?
whats the benifits of manual hubs???
my brother has them on his ford truck and i always laugh at him when its snowing and hes gotta get out of the truck to put 4X4 on[sm=confused06.gif]

also speakle, i feel your pain! i get 12 in the city unloaded, and MAYBE 14 on the highway if im lucky. i just went out last week and plowed snow and got a grand total of 9.5 mpg w/ 650bs of sand in the back[:@] what i plowed was nothing big at all, i think it was only a 2" push to be exact and most of it was forward driving...
i have an intake coming in anyday now, and planning on a smarty within a few weeks so im hoping i can report a nice gain with that stuff!

Like I said "going from 2wd to 4wd" will have some effect, not only are you running a second axel, but your areodynamics have changed as well. The additionalweight of another axel and transfer case adds to the equation. Like Jimmy says add a locking hub kit, you'd be surprised what a difference it makes, got 3mpg increase with my locking hubs! ( until I went with larger tires and road armor bumpers)The tirescan add to the loss of mpg as mentioned. At 18500 miles you mayhave to double that to see any real difference, hell popular belief is you shouldn't even switch to synthetic oil until 30-40k miles, tells me you have aways to gobefore you have it broke in. And as I said before, not one of these CTD are the same some break sooner then others, others are going to get better mileage then most.
Like I said, I was really just venting......... I definatlely dont want manual hubs. My speedo is off from the 265-285 tire change which makes a difference (not much). I am going to get the smarty jr but it will be a few more weeks (Bday is in april, maybe the wifey will be good to me).
