Default as long as everybody is talking about 5'ers...

has anybody ever heard of a hitch buddy or a tow buddy? it lets you tow a fifth wheel with as a bumper pull, so that you can still have access to the bed of your truck. or if you have an SUV what have you... anyways, i saw one 'driving' around in the past and decided to look into them. however, they seem to not exist! i have found several links to hitch-buddy.com and tow-buddy.com, but there is nothing there! did they go out of business? did they turn out to not be safe? the last reference i found was from feb '07, but nowhere can i find out about what happened to them? anyone know?

I saw one at Camping World in Seffner, FL last Spring. The cost was over $6000. Haven't seen one for a while. Maybe the cost killed it.

that is a very interesting setup, but, and this is only my query, wouldn't that detract from the very essence of a fiver, the dolly appears to be lockedinline with the rear but wouldn'tthe swivel points would be a lot more like a travel trailer.

I saw one last year on the highway I-10 in California and have never seen one again. I wasn't sure what it was and none of my friends knew what I was talking about. I am glad to see that it really does or did exist I thought I might have be driving a little to long and was seeing things

Read a big review on them on trailerlife or somewhere. The pluses were that they really helped with breaking cause it adds another brake axle and they pulled pretty well. The minuses were that they were expensive like $6-7 k and the wheels dont turn. They are fixed to the back of the truck so they just skidded around on tight turns and the tires didn't last long. Overall sounded like adecent Idea just need some improvements

At the Tampa Rv show in January,I talked to Mr Dale Fenton, designer of the Trail air hitch and Trail air suspension for axels. Hehas designed a similar hitch that hooks up like a gooseneck in the bed but has a frame with two large wheels and a 5th wheel hitch. Supposed to take a lot of the weight off the truck and transfer to the tow dolly.

i think it might be more derogatory than a help, if they could fashion a type of walking beam system it would save the tires, i dunno, i can't see it being an answer.
