Default Drove a Powerjoke

I drove a 2004 Powerstroke today. It was stock 4X4 auto. All I can say is I'm glad I havea CTD! The turbo lag is horrible and even with boost built up, it had no guts. I have driven plenty of 7.3 powerstrokes and even they would have put this 6.0 to shame. One good thing I will say is that the tranny felt strong and shifted very smoothly. The tach redlines at 4k rpm, but at full throttle it reved to about 3500 - 3600 rpm. The tag on the engine said it was rated at 325 hp and 560 ft-lbs of torque. I was very surprised at how sluggish it seemed. Just wanted to reassure everyone that they made a good decision with the CTDs.

one thing you need to look at is the torque curve of the engine. you dont actualy get the full 560lbft untill around 2100rpm. short stroke high revving engine.

yeah and the 6.0 definitely has more power than the 7.3, they just aren't reliable at all. I drive them every day and I know what you mean by turbo lag, and drew is exactly correct about the power curve. if wind that motor up to about 3 grand or so it'll scoot. but, like I said, doesn't mean a thing if it can't do it reliably.

I have t drive those 6.0's and the new 6.4's all the time at work.. I hate them.. They just retiured the one ford I didn't mind driving.. we had an older 97 with the 7.3.. That truck was actually all right, you could mash the pedal and get the same kind of response I expected. Anyhow we have very few Duramaxes and no CTD's its sad. Mostly we have the new Triton V-10 thogh and a few of the new 6.4's
