OT... Bought an air compressor...
for as much as I've wrenched in the past, you'd think I'd already had one. been doing it the hard way too long. while getting the tranny serviced this mornng I stopped by OSH and they had a 30 gal 6hp/2hp running compressor on closeout for $225... Phil, manager there knocked off another $25 bux and made it too good of a deal to pass up. [&:] man the wife is gonna kill me lol
I will of course tell her that it will help me swap out her bad front axle and save me from sending it to a shop to loosen the axle nut
that may easy my lashings lol.

I am jealous, I ended up paying a total of $250 for my Craftsman 26 gallon 1.6 hp compressor. It came with an air ratchet and impact but I would have preferred the extra HP and 4 gallons.
I'm sure I'm gonna love it... fits right where my 2 floor jacks used to sit (have to find a new home for them).
got it situated and fired it up... pretty quiet for a compressor IMO. the last compressor I owned you couldnt talk while you were next to it.

Thats how my little 6 gallon was. A constant drone. My new one is roughly 4 times the size and is half as loud. I can talk to my friends right in front of it at a normal level and we can still hear each other.
You'll love working with air tools. I bought a 60 gal. vertical tankIngersoll-Rand T56 about 10 yrs ago, plugged it in, and it's been pressurized ever since. Zero leakage, that thing will go months without running if I don't use air. As I recall, it was $500 ten years ago.
The only leak I have is in the crappy hose craftsman included that I used to feed the air line in the garage (the compressor is in the garage.)

I was between craftsman and husky. I went with the husky because it had three speed settings for the motor. loud, decent and quiet (not technical terms) and I have no complaints. 26 gallons and a fair price.
A few years ago I bought a 2 hp portable Dayton Speedaire compressor. It has an old schoolbelt driven pump, rather than asealed, all-in-one pump. I like it because you can buy replacement parts for it and it should last a long time. The only drawback is I have to change the oil once in awhile, but what's one more oil change?
