making air compressor from AC compressor
anybody ever did this mod? i laready got a 12 gallon tank under my bed but im tired of refulling it every week so i want to convert my AC conpressor i never use to push air in,i figure i just have
to check whit side suck for putting a air filter and witch side push to connect on tank then run the switch to a pressure limit switch on the tank to say maybe 100psi and install a bleed valve on the tank maybe 20psi more than the limit switch...anyone got ideas?

I did it on my Jeep, put a toggle switch to the clutch to turn it on & off, a pressure switch to regulate the pressure (on at 80 psi off at 125 psi), a small 2 gal. storage tank, and a filter on the intake of the compressor. I used the York Compressor.
You may not have a need for this, but my Pacbrake exhaust brake's onboard compressor has a hose connection fitting for filling tires and such.
Should you ever need an exhaust brake, that'll serve your other needs as well.

hummm nice,id do it for sure..i need air for my rear air suspension and for my air horn,i often use air tools too so no more compressor carrying....
Refrigerant compressors are lubricated by oil entrained with the refrigerant. I would figure a way to add a little oil periodically and expect it to end up in the tank. Otherwise, sounds like a cool idea.
nice idea roadking,i didnt thinked about that....ho yeah i get it,all my lines in my shop that come from my 25HP Twin cylinder compressor got a air dryer and a oiler where u plug the hoses,so ill put that on the sucking side of the compressor...
thanks for the idea
and for oil in the tank i dont care much i got a drain valve on the bottom whit a catch can about 1 quart just between the tank and the valve so no water anywhere...

Woli, the only compressors that work for this are the york and techumsea A/C compressors, they have their own oil reservoir in the bottom of the case so the compressor is not starved for oil, If you use your existing compressor it will lock up right away due to the fact that all of its lube is contained in the refrigerant, the only way this would work is to supply a constant supply of pag compressor oil, this would get very expensive very fast, Keep your a/c intact and go Buy a reman york compressor (225.00 complete with clutch and pulley), attach a v belt pully to your alternator pulley and make mounting brackets for the compressor. Thats the way I have set up many systems with great results. Good Luck!
hum....i got a 2002 retired buss that got a air compressor on it for the brakes....maybe id take it from there and install it but this is taking alot of space...
6inarow are u pretty sure about ur statement?,i dunno a thing at all about those ac compressor thats why im asking :P
