Default Exhaust Question

I've been looking around for a new exhaust and found that Magnaflow and MBRP make one for the 6.7......however......i've been reading about just cutting the muffler out completly and just putting in a straight pipe. Is there a difference???? And does anyone know if its legal in Cali??????

the muffler is just a flow through design. if you pull it off you can look straight through it. there is not much of a change in tone. remove the cat DPF and then you'll hear a good change in tone.

Diesel Particulate Filter. . . it basicaly filters the soot out of the exhaust, then when the level gets high enough it burns it through a regen mode and turns the soot into ash.

in California there are no diesel emission restrictions at all on and diesel build before Dec 31, 2006. any diesel after that have to stand up against horrid emissions laws, and on any 6.7 you CANNOT remove the DPF or CAT and muffler is fine and you can put an exhaust on, but cannot change the DPF and CAT, you can break the law and do it, which i'm not against, but your truck will run horrible. and don't worry about the warrenty. you'll be fine

OK...thnx

I'll be ordering up an AFE intake and doing the exhaust probably this weekend. Would it be wise to say that just putting in a straight pipe would be the way to go???? Being that an actual muffler wouldn't really do any good???
