Which Programmer to get for Economy?
I'mplanning to buy a programmer for better mileage on my 2005 3500 4x4 CTD for towing a 4500 lb camper anddriving back and forth to work. I had pretty much decided to go with a Smarty Jr. because of all the good reviews. But the price is kind of high $495.
Then I saw an ad for the Hypertech Max energy ECON andit is only $329.
Any other programmers worth looking at?
Anybody have any input?
Thanks in advance !!!!

Yeah I post my mpg result from the smarty jr just the other day again, for 70hp and 1.5-2 mpg gains I'm very happy with it, not sure what the 100hp does cause I never used it. I got the Jr so I would be stupid and try a retarded high setting, my Tq Conv started slippin but I got a heavy foot sometimes, just keep that in mind though
one thing you have to watch is most programmers will reset the key on counter, smarty will not. so if you go in for warranty work and they notice your key on counter being off it will raise flags and you may have your warranty voided since that is a tale tell sign of a programmer.
Smarty keeps track of the key on counter and makes sure to keep the number correct. while smarty is a bit more expensive, it is worth it. and if you want to drop a little more you can get the Smarty 'full throttle' and have acess to more features that you can use.

i've got a flashpaq in my 07 and consistently get 24-25 mpg freeway driving, at 68-70 mph. its hard tho to keep yer foot out of it, but with todays diesel prices, not that hard!

no. the 3rd gens use non-volitile memory. If you have a CEL that you want gone you can leave the batteries dissconnected for a full year and it will still be there when you fire the thing up. the key counter, CEL's and about 10 seconds or so of engine data are stored in the computer. the 10 seconds of data is so dodge can see what was going on right before the engine died or whatnot.
now with that flashpaq, is that hand calculated or what is being read on the lie-o-meter. I ask that cause thats the same mileage my little toyota w/4banger gets. I normaly average around the 17's to low 18's.

usualy what happenes with some programmers is it removed the stock software and stores the info on the programmer, then it flashes the ECM with the software you selected, which also includes setting the key on counter to 0. now, when you return back to stock the key on counter is set back to what it was when you flashed the memory, so if you racked up 200 starts they will not reflect when you go back to stock. It will set the counter to what is stored in the programmers memory.
in the worst cases the hour meter is also reset in the same manner.
