Craftsman oiless air compressor question
Is there such a thing as a muffler for Craftsman's oiless air compressor? I've had one for about 10 years now, and I still can't get used to how loud it is when it fires up. It also keeps me from working late in the night as it'll also wake up the entire neighborhood when it fires up.
Is there such a think as a muffler? If not, have any of you guy's fabricated anything?
Thanks !!

In my experience oil-less compressors are pretty loud, that is why the one I use for work is not. Most compressors have a little round plastic piece with a piece of foam in it on the inlet side of the compressor head.
I didn't know when I got it that it was going to be as loud as it was. When I got it, oiless was new to me, and I thought it was going to be better. Now I know that they are poop. If I could just get the think to quiet down though, I'd use it more often.

Maybe try building an insulated box around it, might be worth a try.

Mayfair, I think it is just how old yours is. I have a new 26 gallon craftsman oiless compressor and it is 1/2 as loud as my old 6 gallon compressor.

It would be relatively simple to build an insulated box with ventilation via a vent and small built in fan. Question is if it worth your time over just getting a new compressor.
Well, I'd hate to have to get a new compressor since this one works fine, it's just loud.
So you guy's are saying that the noise is comming from the INTAKE side of the compressor? I'll hafta take the cover off and investigate a little.

When I had mine it was loud. dont think the silencers seem to help much with them I say build a box with some space around it wiith a little bit of ventalation and it shouldnt overheat. Im running a 3 phase now. just as loud but 160psi and can run any tool I want including my 1" gun
