What do you think that tab on the left is for then? It's not pictured in that link.

Not for sure but I would think it was to hold the face plate in. If the plate is put in from the back it would go into a edge on the right and snap in place on the left. In other words the face plate comes in from the back of the cover and snaps into the plate.

I think either I'm confused, or I didn't do a good job explaining it

The ( what I call ) Faceplate is merely just a sticker on a box. ( Actually 2 stickers if you count the one on the bottom where the switch is ) WhenI tried to lift off just the faceplate ( see top right corner ), just a sticker started to come off. The faceplate ( sticker ) is attached to a box that is secured to the wall. There are no groves on the sides to indicate that it is a two piece set-up. It just looks like a box with a sticker on it secured somehow to the wall. The tab on the left is a mystery.

Based on that link that you gave me, I'm assuming that the whole box is snapped onto a track that I can't see below it. I'm assuming that I could just take a screwdriver and gently work it under the cover and hopefully just pry the cover off without also grapping the track below it.

The only remaining mystery is that tab and why it's there.

Sound right?

Yep, I was trying to say I think the face plate with the stickers is a 3 rd piece. I think it comes in from the BACK of the cover and snaps in. Once you get the cover off look inside and I bet the face with the stickers snaps into the cover from the back.
