Ok, it saved to my desktop ( which is fine ) but for some reason I can't type anything into it. I can move the black box around, but I can't type into it. When I go to the file button at the top and hit click for editing, a little box opens up saying something like Microsoft can't find any version of Excel. Am I screwed?

It sounds like you don't have Excel installed on your machine. You could try installing OpenOffice, which is an open source Microsoft Office substitute. It's totally free, and has a program called Calc that is similar to Excel.

Mayfair, you can't use it now. How would you STILL be able to use it? If you download the open office stuff then you will be able to START using that cool chart.

Mayfair, Microsoft Office is a software package that contains various software programs for word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentations, etc. The "hate Microsoft" crowd developed OpenOffice to act as a free version ofMS Office. The Calc program is specifically designed towork with.xls (Excel)files. You can create a file in Calc, save it as a xls file, and then open the file with Excel. Or vice-versa. OpenOffice also has programs that mimic MS Word, PowerPoint, and others. Read this article if you want to know more about OpenOffice.

I have been tracking my fuel consumption very closely using an Excel spreadsheet. Since Day 1 my overall MPG is exactly 15.3, although lately it's closer to 15.7 MPG. Here is a link to the Excel file if you guys want to look at it. Feel free to plagiarize if you want to use it.
Damn, your mileage is pretty solid. Mine seems to bounce around everywhere :

The low numbers (10-11 MPG) are when I was towing. I forgot to mark them in the comments section of the spreadsheet.

Mayfair, I would say yes, use OpenOffice as your default for those files. Especially if you don't have Word, Excel, or PowerPoint installed on your machine. That way, when you double-click on an Excel file it will open in Calc. If you do not set it as the default, you will probably get the same error message when you try to open the file. Plus, you can always change the default to another program at a later date.
