Default 100 hp differance, Why?

Hello Everyone,
First off I'm new here. I've been hiding in cogneedo, Reading and learning. Oh yea, thank you for all your knowlage.
I have a 01 black dually TST power max 3 Ithink it's called. Banks intake( would have a ATS if I seen it before I bought my banks)banks 4" ex. & a f.a.s.s. 150/150

Oh yea I don't spellvery well so sorry.

I went to the steallership with my mother so she could look at the new aspen. with a $54,000 price tag she thought no thanks. I love my truck so much, she desided to buy a 2004 3500 dually ctd. Man her truck is so beautifull, it's unbeleaveable. Dark matallic blue, running boards with marker lights,line-x bed,

So 3 weeks later she says lets go by the stealership and ask them where they had the line-x installed. me not being the sharpest tool in the shed I said dah ok.
to make a long story short I bought a 2005 2500 4door ctd. ( now I have 2 ctd, woo hoo).
I got home gave my wife and boys a ride. (Boys had a hard time walking after that lol). Wife said she did'nt like my new truck, I said what, she said it's not a dually so she don't like it. oh brother.

Well after talking to my mom she said she want's to trade me trucks. I'm thinking cool, untill I look on her valve cover and it says advertised hp 225 @ 2700 rpms. then I look at my 2005 2500 and it says 325 hp @ 2900.

Couldanyone please explain why. I think they both have the same injector pump, I think they both are common rail. If they both have the same block could it be elec. 100 hp is a big differance for one year apart.

I know the thread is no good without pics. I have to learn how to do that.

thank you. Clayton

Check again, I believe the only two power output ratings for that year are 305hp and 325hp. If its 225 hp, its putting out less then your 01 did stock.

There was a 235 HP model cummins available in the 2004. It was the none HO(high output). The HO had the 325HP with 600 lb-ft tq.

I have read it somewhere but can't remember where, but the difference was just programing like finny said. It could have been the Jan or Feb edition of Diesel Power but I can't find my copies to verify for you. I wil try to find them and find the article and scan it in for you.

Check out http://dodgeram.info it has some good information and some engine listings for the different years. It doesn't have all of the same information for each year, but it still has some good info.

In 04 they had 3 different motors....early 04's had a 305hp (HO) and I thought it was the 285 (SO) and then 04.5 had the 325 hp motor.

I could be wrong, but 225 doesnt' seem right.

Steve is correct. You can find the stats on wikipedia :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cummins_B_Series_engine

In 2001, an optional high output (HO) version of the ISB was introduced, producing 245 hp (183 kW) at 2700 rpm and 505 ft·lbf (686 Nm) from 1600 rpm to 2700 rpm when paired with a heavy duty six-speed transmission, the NV5600. The ISB from previous years remained available, and automatic-equipped engines were now rated the same as manuals.

For the 2003 model year, the Cummins was introduced with Bosch high pressure common rail fuel injection, again increasing power output. Midway through the 2004 model year, the Cummins 600 was introduced, producing 325 hp (242 kW) at 2900 rpm and 600 ft·lbf (813 Nm)at 1600 rpm. This high torque output gives the engine its name, and also offers a high specific output of 102 ft·lbf (138 Nm) per liter of displacement.
