Default kero

i have parked my truck for the last 3 weeks since diesel is now 4.19 in beaver, PA and it is way to expensive to run. while i was at the garage though i found a 55 gallon drum that has 17 gallons of kero in it. i was wondering if it would hurt my 01 to run it isince it would be free. my uncle said that he ran it in his 94 and had noproblems at all. i just don't want to mess something up that will make me end up paying more to fix the truck than it would be to fill it. i just figured since the kero was free, would it hurt to run it? if it is ok to run itshould i add some 2 stroke oil or something to make sure that my pumps are getting enough lube? thanks for any help.

Don't take this for fact and if someone else knows more please chime in but I think you can run it with no problems. I run kero in my oil fired garage furnace with no problems and the guy who delivers my fuel oil said last time he put some left over kero in the oil he delivered.

I would check to see if it is dyed, if not, I would run it and throwing in some 2 cycle won't hurt it.

Have a friend who occasionally runs it in his older chevy diesel (6.2). Pings and knocks a little louder as its supposed to be a hotter burn. Of coarse, when it runs the 6.2 will run on anything, as he will mix in old motor oil and tranny fluid in the old farm truck. In the old days they used to add kero with the diesel fuel to prevent gelling and make for easier winter starts. I don't know what harm it may cause in the diesels, but I would definitely cut it with diesel fuel and additives first. Personnally I wouldn't use it in my truck until someone else tried it first. Sooooo....let me know how it goes.

if you wanted to burn that drum. . .I'd say mix about 10 gallons at a time, 10 gal from the drum and fill the tank the rest of the way with pump #2

Yeah what Drew said. You've got a VP44 and you don't want to take any chances messing it up. Definately use 2 stroke or some type of lube in the fuel.

Don't foget guys, he is in PA they are running winterized diesel up there right now. That stuff is already poor (less BTU's and lube). If you're going to use it I would use it more diluted and add some bio for lubricity.

thanks guys! i think i will give it a try if i take it out. it really isn't hurting me to let it sit but it is too much fun to drive not to drive it at least every once in a while. i wish that i could get some bio in it but i have not found any stations in my area that carry it. a lot of the guys i know in the beaver, PA area are running off-road sincefuelis so expensive right now. not one of them has gotten caught yet and one of them said that he has run it for over 3 years now. hopefully i won't get caught with the kero either seeing that it has dye in it.
