Default Question for a friend

He has a:
2001 Dodge Ram access cab w/ the 5.9.
5 speed manual
4.10 rear
4x4
w/ 220,000 miles and some change.
All maint. has been done on it.

He hauls a 12,000lb 5th wheel.....and sometimes has another 4000lbs hitched behind the 5th wheel.
In the last 6 moths he's noticed a decline in performance. He used to be able to haul the Grapevine (going into LA) w/ the 5th wheel in 4th gear without any issues. Now it seems to be struggling!!!!!!
I've told him to replace his intake and exhaust and then get a programmer.

My question is.....what would be his best option in the programmer department for his particular truck????

any help would be much appreciated!!!

I would figure out why it is loosing power before adding anything else. Has he checked the easy stuff yet (fuel filter, dragging brakes on either the truck or trailer, wheel bearings)? As far as a programmer, one of the guys I work with tows his 15K Warriorwith a 00 Ram 3500 with some type of Edge programmer. He says he loves it.

When was the fuel filter replaced? Also has the lift pump ever been changed out. Probably need to have fuel pressure checked to make sure he hasnt killed his vp44.
