Here are my mpg recordings from a December trip. BUT I'm doing tranny upgrades next week cause the Tq. Conv. is slipping.... so just keep in mind whats worth more to you...

Hey all finally back from my xmas trip back home, anywho here were my highway MPG w/different Smarty settings for those of you that were wondering!

Stock-17.8 ~ 544.1miles
40 HP-17.1 ~ 528.2 & 520.3 miles (2tanks)
70 HP-18.6 ~ 591.1miles

This was my hand calc results over the whole trip I ran 40 HP all the way up there thinking the economy setting would do the best but tried the stock and 70 HP setting just so I could get results and was happy to find the 70HP did best. I tend to get best mpg running 65-70 mph but ran between 85-87 mph on cruise because thats how fast everyone else was goin .

The 70 HP setting was showin 21.3 at 70mph on the lie-o-meter which I usually find shows 2mpg higher so I assume a guy could break 19 using the 70 HP setting runnin 65-70.

Also the truck tends to do alot better in higher altitudes... on the way through Louisiana the lie-o-meter would show better mpg when gettin away from the coast and lower when coming back down towards it..

QC... did you swap the new box in the same time you did tires? when I did my 33's (75 lbs ea) I lost about 2~2.5 mpg, may explain part of what is going on with your truck.

Also someone mentioned an '05 thing as them getting bad mileage, mine started out in the 18's hiway when i got it used with 14k on it, then took a dump when I put the tires on... if you check my thread, now with 90k on the clock I can get upper 18's, this with the TST set on 3/2 (3= ~ 20 hp ea so 60~70 hp) and I dont remember what the torque settings are per number. ONe key thing that I found the last 3 tanks was that if you hold the throttle steady and let the torque do it's thing the mileage will improve. Remember that I'm climbing 2500~2800' each day (also dropping that on the way down...).

i don't see any reason that you couldn't run the smarty and the max mileage. the smarty just reprograms the ecm while the max mileage is actually wired in. it may be worth a try. i would like to get my hands on one and see if it made any gains on my truck when added to my adrenaline. if it did it sure would be one hell of a ride!!!

No. I ran about 8 tanks with the old 285's and the Max Mileage. My mileage was the same with or without the box. If I read the specs right, the Pro Comps are only 32.6 in in diameter, while the BFG's were 32.8. The only difference is the Pro Comps are about 1 in wider. My mileage has been a little better with the new tires, but I also aligned the front end using your DIY thread. I drive the truck very easy and only run about 65-70 mph on the highway, so I don't think my bad mileage is due to my driving style. I had a 2001 CTD that got 17-20 mpg, so I was expecting the same from this one. I have 88k miles on the clock so she's definetely broken in.

I bought a max mileage chip about a month ago but they only day I drove my pickup it was terribly windy. 200 mile round trip (50 with tailwind) I average 16.5. I was able to get 19 before the chip if the wind was down. (which isn't very often in Montana)--people around here blame it on Idaho sucking and North Dakota blowing...

I hear you. The wind blows 20-30 mph constantly around here. On a bad day its more like 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Those kind of winds play havoc with fuel mileage. It always seems to be a headwind [:@].

Hey Steve,
Didn't you say that you noticed an increase in MPG's when you added you intake as well?

0/0/s/th 200.0 261.0 414.0 545.0 - 571.4 31.914 17.904 complete stock settings, no psd.
0/0/s/th 185.0 253.0 400.0 522.0 - 569.8 32.451 17.558 complete stock intake manifold

yup, saw about .35~.4 mpg. the biggest thing I noticed was climbing the hills... with the stock manifold, the tranny was downshifting more... indicating I was into the throttle more. when I went back to the ats, it did not downshift nearly as much... if I were to put a % on the drop... 60~70% drop in downshifting on the grades I take daily. that was telling me I had more low end torque. Again this is with the ATS manifold.

I downloaded an update for the max mileage box, so I will let you know if it helps any more. This update enables boost fooling. I can tell the throttle is a little more responsive, but I don't know what it will do to my mileage.
