Front Drive shaft replacement?
Howdy all. First time poster here, I', not really familiar with Dodge trucks, as my SN says, I'm more of a Jeep guy--hence the following questions, with enough detail thrown in to make the story interesting.
So last night I'm driking a couple beers at the local bar with a friend of mine (5'3", blonde with great big blue eyes...female to boot!). She mentioned that the front driveshaft of her '04 2500 broke.
Odd, I though. Well, either odd or impressive.
I asked her if it was really the shaft that broke or the U-joints (the flappy things on the end). She said it was the shaft.
So, OK, it was snowing like all get out and I didn't want to crawl under the thing so I'm taking her word for it.
Funds are tight and she can't afford a new shaft from a dealer. With Jeeps, there are boneyards out there that sell parts salvaged from wrecks. Is there such a place on the Internet for dodge trucks? I'm thinking that if I can find a shaft at a reasonable price, we can get her back in business and I get to be the knight in shining armour.
Cheers,
JH

Not sure where to get cheap axles, but here is a link to help you remove the old ones.

Most of the parts places you're gonna find on the net for CTD's are performance build up parts.

2wd drive long shaft or front/rear 4x4 shaft???
i wouldnt mind breaking my driveshaft in her, let that 75-140 flow. haha...........
on the 1500s (may hold true on the ***** compensators (aka ctds) ) the 2wd is an alum sheet wrapped around a cardboard tube.
double check that its the drive shaft, generaly the YOU joints break first.
edit....
whats her gear rat? is it a low one, that can add to the malfunction of a drive shaft due to the higher rpms at highway speed, a lil ol thing called harmonic resonance
or did she try this??
