I've just got 1,200 miles on my 08 4x4 Ram, 6 speed manual. I got the basic quad cab w/o the tow package and think the rear-end ratio is 342. Then running on the highway, in 6th gear at 65-70 MPHthe engine is turning 1,900-2,000 RPMs andmy fuel computer indicates 14-15 mpg. If I drop to 5th, the RPMs jump to 2,500 and the computer shoots up to 19-20 mpg. 2,500 is only600 away from red-line. At 2500 the truck sounds like it's towing a bull dozer! Am I seeing right?
That overhead meter is junk. Mine told me 17-18 all yesterday from driving over 400 miles non stop highway. Today, I filled up and did the math and I only got 16. I am at 4,800 miles.
