Default Exhaust Question

I was just thinking, trying to think of a reason why I might still be getting such bad mileage. Do you think my muffler could be clogged because of the shredded catalytic converter that I removed a while back? The inside of the cat was clogged with a million penny sized pieces of whatever is in there. Could some of that have traveled to the muffler and clogged it as well? I was thinking about having it removed just to see if that would help. What do you guysthink? If you remember I found part of an old turbo in my cat.

I'm probably grasping for straws, but I drove the truck 10k miles(who knows how far the previousowner drove it like that)with all that crap blowing around inside the exhaust. I just didn't know if it would travel a few feet into the muffler. My truck seems to have good low end power, but is sluggish above about 2200 rpm. I didn't know if this might be caused by a clogged muffler. Maybe I'm crazy.

i have seen the mufflers clog up from the cats coming apart on many jeeps. the wrangler that i used to have had this happen and well i took a bar to the cat and gutted it and then took off the muffler and straight piped it in to custom duels! it was the loudest thing, especially with the top down cruising down the highway at 65-70 mph. it would be worth a try if you have the ability to do it yourself instead of paying someone to take the muffler off. also there are a lot of guys on here running the aero. maybe it would help to replace the muffler with one and see what happens. hopefully it will give you your power back!

Why don't you just lose the muffler? Is the cat still there?

If I lose the muffler, I will be running straight pipe. I'm not worried about the noise, but I don't want to lose anymore mileage. It would be worth it if the muffler really was clogged though. I've heard running straight pipe hurts mileage, but if my muffler is clogged it may actually help me. I'm torn about what to do.

leave it until you can get an aero 4040 to put where the cat used to be..., then you can run a straight pipe after that if you like, or even a 30" magnaflow like mine...

I'll see what I can do about getting an Aero.

Nickcoletti: Have you always been running with no cat or did you have it removed recently? I was just wondering if that is why we are both struggling with mileage. If you had it removed, Did you get better mileage before?
