ORIGINAL: Watermelon

A few bits and shavings would be normal IMO. That baby is working pretty hard pulling that beast of a camper of yours. At 60k I would expect to see a little wear. Like Drew said, the real test will be on the next change.
Exactly!

Drew & Watermelonhave hit it pretty much on the head.....and a new tranny is expected to see some minor shavings/trimmings off the gears. My rebuilt tranny was much the same in my Z26 and in my Dakota.....and both saw minor shavings after the first 15k (i was paranoid hehe).

Needless to say, like Drew stated, if its like that after your next checkup/refill, then I'd be worried. However, dont jump the gun too soon. If you are ultimately that concerned, take it and get it looked at now before the potential of a blown tranny.

yea, the G56's take ATF, the fill hole is on the side, when it starts pouring out your full.

BTW, Nick, when I changed my axel fluid the first time there was a pant load of metal on the magnets, the last change had just a thin film.

Yeah, I may be just a shade tree redneck mechanic, but I know that nothing is maintenance free.

AZ...My owners manual said to do it at 60K miles. Which is what mine has on it.

I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but it seems to be a little quieter and smoother shifting today after changing the fluid. I think I'm still gonna change it after another 10K miles just to see what that magnet looks like.I know I'm gonna do the transfer case more often, the fluid in it was darker than the trans fluid was. Good thing there isn't a magnet in it or I'd be a nervous nelly over that too.

I dunno but on my new truck i'm prolly gonna do it every 20k miles and the first at 15k. IMO it's the same as gear lube for rear diffs which you do every 15k. so IMO do it every 15-20k

yeah it all depends on how many filings were in there. thats why theres the magnet. just like in the diffs. the plus side without the magnet that crap would still be floating around in there.
