I had my stock muffler cut off today and replaced with a straight pipe. As soon as the guy cut it off, crap started falling out of it. It was full of junk out of my old cat(which was removed a few months ago). He said he had never seen one like that. I really couldn't tell if it was clogged or not, but it was at least partially clogged. The truck is not nearly as loud as I had feared, but it will scream if you step on it. No droning or vibrations when cruising. It's not much louder than stock at highway speeds. I'll let you know if that was causing my bad mileage.
Yea. It doesn't sound as good as a 12 valve, but it still sounds pretty good. It's not too loud though. I leave the house at 6 am every morning so we will see if the neighbors start complaining about me waking them up.
When I moved to town 6 years ago, my neighbor would fire up his old frickin chevy 350 that barely runs on 7 cylinders. I remember one morning, I got home from work at 4 AM and he's trying to get it started at 6 AM. It's like -20 so he's got it running and idled up to about 2k rpm. He just about got a .308 through the block.
I try not to rev the engine at all until I get to the end of the block. I just idle about a quarter of a mile to the intersection. I don't want to be the stupid neighbor with the dumb *** truck.[8D]
