What would be the advantages/disadvantages of manually locking the TC?
I know 2 things about the auto tranny- when it works and when it doesn't.

when you let off the throttle the TC unlocks and then when back on the throttle it locks up again.....eliminates unwanted wear on the TC,......Dallas

Tell ya what my friend, you need to know what your doing with that switch. If you were to come to a stop and not shut that switch off, it would instantly snap something in the drive line, guaranteed. Somewhere between the flexplate and tranny inputshaft I would think. If it shears the splines inside the torque converter, you're done for...lol.

Not being a ball buster or wise guy at all. Just saying that once you install that, you driving habits will change. And in an instant you can do some heavy damage, my friend.

Good luck with your ride.

Ok, I understand what it does. My question is; Why? What purpose does it serve?

Puts more power to the ground in gears other than O/D. If the T/C is locked up the driveline is stiffer and much more efficient. Also in low-speed towing situations it should provide for lower tranny fluid temps since a non-locked T/C puts a lot of heat into the fluid. As the Demon points out you will do damage if you come to a stop with a locked T/C, it's like stopping with the clutch engaged.
