Default Injector problem or not?

I was towing my rig to the National Championships on Tuesday and it starting pinging and blowing tons of black smoke. There was no place to pull over and I was going down hill. So I coasted to the bottom of the hill push the pedal all the way to the floor 3 times. The engine mad4e a pop noise and started running fine. Never did it again through the whole 500 mile trip. About 10 minutes after this happened, I drove it in 6th gear and went up a 3% grade and floored it the whole way up the hill hoping this was just a piece of trash or water in the fuel. I figure maybe I blew it out when I put the pedal to the floor 3 times. When I got to the top of the hill there was a rest area and I hooked up my OBDII reader and there were no codes.

Was this just a hiccup in the fuel system or do I need check the injectors and or something else?

I've never cleaned the map sensor. I clean the IAT about every 6 months or so because of the exhaust brake.

Hows your air filter?... brother had one of his work trucks brought back from being in the bush, guy left it at the shop and never reported anything wrong with the truck. I noticed that it had a great deal of soot all over the back quarter and around the bumper... excessive smoke. Checked air filter, she was starting to collapse!!

Cold air/cold engine, also lack of air will produce tons of black smoke (so would over fueling).

Air filter is fine. This only happened one time for about 15-20 seconds through the whole trip.

I might as well ask, but what exactly is the map sensor, or even the IAT for that matter?
No one is born knowing these things and now is as good as any time to ask.
Thanks.........

MAP Sensor = Manifold Air Pressure Sensor. it senses the level of pressure in the intake manifold so the ECM knows how much to fuel.

IAT Sensor = Intake Air Temp Sensor. it tells the ECM what the temp of the intake is so once again it knows how much to fuel.

[:@]Dang it! [:@]

I was hoping that you guys were going to come back and say something like "you've got an injector fixing to go out, better get some new ones before you are stranded on the side of the road."

I've had my eyes on some 75hp injectors and this would have been a good excuse to go and get them.
