Toyota's rep for good vehicles was from when they were manufactured in Japan. My mom has a new Higlander and she HATES it. She had a 1980 something corolla that was a great car. That is the reason I got the Sienna, my good memories of the Corolla. I still stand by what I said, Toyota can kiss my behind, they won't get anohter penny from me!As far as being being made in TX I could care less, so are the GM suv's and there won't be one of those in my driveway either.

I do agree tha the unions have not served their members or their industry well, but the problem with the auto industry in general is GREED. They cheapen up everything they can to the point where suppliers can't make a decent profit, then beat 5% more out of the cost every year. Then they take the freaking huge profit margin they make on the vehicles and squander it and come up with a loss for the year. Toyota included!

Speaking of old Toyotas, I have a 1992 extended cab 4x4 that I use for the deer hunting camp. It was made in Japan and has served me well. I've been thru deep mud bogs, up and down steep hill sides that occasionally I had to winch myself out of, and never did the truck quit on me. Not to mention hauled alot of deer in the bed.

My daughter is turning 16 this year and I'm looking at a Toyota Rav4. Consumer Reports rates this little suv at the top of it's class. Unless I see something better, I'm going to roll the dice on this one.

Bigriver - is that taco a standard, theyll run forever. Posted on another thread but weve got a 4runner with over 300k on it at the farm. Lord knows how many trees its run into while spotlighting, hard balancing a shotgun, q beam, tequilla and a steering wheel. That's why its easier to have a 14 year old drive it while you try to shoot.
Theyre indestructible vehicles. Top gear did a show on , took an ol toyo hilux (model before the tacos) put it on a 15 story building, then imploded the building and then gave a mech only basic tools and he got it running on the scene.

Rav4 is a good pick for a girl that doesn't want a car. Mpg isnt bad, safe veh, good resale.

I was told that Ford is a Major shareholder of Cummins. Is this true? The guy who said this is a ford lover and dodge hater, so maybe it was bullshizz. Anyone know otherwise?

hahahaha nope...
this is straight off of cummins FAQ
No, Ford does not own any part of Cummins Inc

now ive heard that you can get a cummins and a cat put in fords super duty lines (not the fake commercial lines 250-350 but real commercial trucks)

lets not forget the cummins that is produced for dodge is one of the smallest motors cummins makes... well their dodge mining truck that has a top end of just 20-25 mph w/ an option to hit 40 is prolly the smallest motor... and that cummins makes a lot of other motors for a lot of other apps than hauling the ol boat to the dock.

As for reliability, 150k miles and I've changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, few other fluids and the driveshaft U-joints twice. So over all I've spent like next to nothing in repairs, maintenance every 7500 miles (filters/oil) so I think it has served me well. As long as ricers, only time i'll own them is for my wife. I'm sticking with my Cummins.
