Just stoppin' in to say hello. I've been lurkin for the most part but wanted to chime in on some of the gas price talk.

I have one year left and my 06 4X4 quad cab will be payed for. Its bone stock and I love the truck. Granted the price of fuel is getting a little out of hand, I enjoy driving too much toentertainparting with it any longer. I've considered it, don't get me wrong - even considered getting a motorcycle to offset the fuel cost.

However, after some thought, I decided to stay right were I am. Keep the truck, keep it stock, make the payment and enjoy it. Life is too short for me to get rid of it. My commute will go from 8 miles round trip to over 60 each day here pretty soon and I still have a boat to pull a couple times a month for family recreation.

Anyway, I guess this didn't turn into much of a post but I'm going to submit it anyway.

Everyone still using Drew's brew?

good to hear. . .I do mis driveing beasty as much as I did, but then again I was also rebuilding the transmission for my yoda. Hopefully Ive got the right output seal now that she wont leak a gallon of 75-90 a week[:'(]

however paying $3.50/gal on the yoda and getting mid 20's does beat $4.05 and right under 18mpg.

You might STILL want to consider that motorcycle soon with diesel quickly approaching $5.00 a gallon. Don't bail on the Ram though. As soon as it leaves your driveway, you'll miss it for sure.

There is a few thing you can do to combat the high price of fuel... But not driving it does save more...

I don't think I could stand to get rid of it. I'm thinking about adding a KLR650 to the stable for a commuter. I'm trying to decide if a 60 mile round trip motorcycle commute is a good idea or not.

The Dodge might be the dedicated fishing boat puller and Home Depot taxi.

Well ... let's just assume that you get 45mpg on the motorcycle.

60 ( miles ) / 45 ( mpg ) = 1.34 gallons @ $ 3.65 ( premium ) = $4.86 daily cost round trip X 5 ( work days ) = $24.30 cost a week

If driving your truck

60 ( miles ) / 17 ( mpg assume ) = 3.53 gallons @ $4.70 ( diesel cost today ) = $16.59 daily cost round trip X 5 ( work days ) = $82.95 week

No brainer to me ...

Ok... You want to play that game eh Mayfair... I use the same figure as above for mileage... But I'll use local prices here...

1983 Honda Goldwing 1100cc
60 miles/ 40 MPG = 1.5 gallons@ $3.859 per gallon= $5.79 x 5 Days = $28.95

2002 Dodge Cummins (driving at 55 MPH)
60 miles / 21 MPG = 2.86 Gallons @ $4.449 per gallon = $12.72 x 5 Days = $63.60

2002 Dodge Cummins (driving at65 MPH)
60 miles /18 MPG =3.33 Gallons @ $4.449 per gallon = $14.82 x 5 Days = $74.10

1996DodgeRam 5.9L Gasser(driving at55 MPH)
60 miles /14 MPG =4.28 Gallons @ $3.859 per gallon = $16.54 x 5 Days = $82.70

So driving my Goldwing is the cheapest by far... But just slowing down in my Cummins can save me $10.50 a week by driving 10 MPH slower. The funny fact is it only takes 5.4 more minutes to travel 60 miles at 55 MPH over 60 miles at 65 MPH... I can drive 10 MPH slower to save $10.50 and get out of the house 10 minutes earlier... As for driving my Mom's gasser that thing will eat me out of house and home! UGH!

But here comes the fun... So is I slowed down a bit and started seeing saving let see over time...

12.72 x 7 = (89.07 for a week)x 4 = (356.16 for a month)x 12 = (4273.92 for a year)

14.82 x 7 = (103.74 for a week) x 4 = (414.96 for a month) x 12 = (4979.52 for a year)

103.74 - 89.07 = $14.67 Saving in a week
414.96 - 356.16 = $58.80 Saving in a month
4979.52 - 4273.92 = $705.60 Saving in a year!!!
