Default Silencer Ring

Hey guys. Ok, I got off work early today, so I decided to try and get this silencer ring taken care of. I pulled apart the intake tubing, all the way down to the turbo, and I didnt see anything. Is it right inside the turbo inlet? Also, I took out this huge (what looks like a) silencer out of the intake tube, should I have done this or what? It took no effort at all to remove it, it came right out, no muscling required. The outside of the piece is covered in foam padding, which is the reason why I call it a silencer. Do I really need this in there?

That is what came out of the intake tube? I haven't looked at mine, but that is totally different from my 5.9 i had. I took the baffles out if it but it did't look like that. I am sure it is not gonna hurt anything, and I myself don't know what the silencer ring is.

For some reason I don't think that you can remove the ring on the 6.7's. I think it's welded in or something. I'm sure someone will chime in who knows for sure.

I think that plastic thing is the baffle that people are removing, but again, I'm not too sure.

Sorry ...

Yeah, the 5.9's have a lock ring, whereas I think on the 6.7's the cone is welded in. Not 100% sure though.

Maybe you could go out and take a couple of pics of the turbo inlet for us?

I have heard of that baffle as well, but it is supposed to be molded into the tubing. This one came right out. I think you are right Mayfair, it may be welded in. I saw a beveled ring in there, but there were no pins or anything to remove it. I am not going to risk breaking any part of my turbo just for a little more sound. When I drive it tomorrow I will see how it sounds. No sense in wasting fuel when I can just wait till tomorrow.

I think on the 3rd gen 5.9's the baffle was molded in, whereas it looks like it's a seperate piece on the 6.7's.

Good to know ... thanks for the pics !! [sm=smiley20.gif]

I just checked that thread FireMedic provided and mine does not look like that. There was no snap ring. I will go and doublecheck, I can get down in there now that my turbo is cool. (I decided to do all this as soon as I shut off my engine. Not smart, but I dont think all the gears have turned since birth. I have touched the hot stove more than once. Lol. I know, dumbass right?) Be back in when I am done.

Oh .. that's right .... the turbo on your truck is kinda tucked down in the engine bay whereas mine sits high up top.

Sorry, I forgot about that.
