Default Need new turbo boost & TPS, help!

[align=left]Help, I just put $5300 in to this truck with new fuel pump & injector with lines. Due to surging. Now they say I need a new turbo boost ( I guess this is a turbo charger) due to a mechanical gate not working. They want $2000 just for the part. Can I get this cheaper somewhere? $700 for the throttle position sensor. I think this is outrageous!

Help, where can I find inexpensive good parts for this truck, that I love! 2000 Ram 2500 6cyl 4x4

Thanks!
Patty

welcome to DF... you can get a good aftermarket turbo cheeper than 2k, they range from $1400 & up IIRC (havent looked in a while). I would tell them to refund your labor on the 1st repairs since they didnt get it right. they are experts (supposedly) and should know what they are doing.

Ok, I will clairfy if they want $2k for the part or if it's the part +installation in the morning.
I've been looking online and found one for $916. moparpartsamerica.com/ trademotion.com
But I don't know if this is something that needs to be done in a garage or here at home.
I'm a novice mechanic with lots of tools, with mechanic neighbors.

$700 for throttle position sensor seems high, what are your thoughts on this part too?

Thank you for the reply!

Contact Dave Parts/Service. He works at a dealer and can get you the parts and prices that you need.

Welcome aboard Patty !!

although I havent had the pleasure yet of swapping a turbo, it should not be that difficult... if you search some of the dodge forums I'll be you'll find a DIY writeup on it.

Hi, thank you for the welcome! I emailed Dave for prices. I will also try CarQuest here in Yucca too. Maybe my mechanic friend will help with this repair so I don't go into the poor house with the bill.

Thank you!

On another note ...

Patty - is that picture of you hovering over a hole photoshopped? That looks dangerous as hell !!

Not photo shopped. I was in Indiana at the caving convention in July. It's a slope, one has to be careful not to slip as it's damp, but its not that dangerous. ;-)

Ok, the parts & labor for the turbocharger replacement is $2k.
TPS part & labor is $687.
He suggested I at least do the TPS to see if the surging stops. But the waste gate is not working.
I do not want to hurt my engine. So I am pondering all of this.

Thanks!

I hate to say it, but this guy sound like a guy who likes to just throw parts at a problem until he fixes it. Any chance you can get a 2nd opinion from another shop?

You can have that cave crap. Bat poop STINKS !!
