Yes, and Yes. The oil will look very black even after a few hundred miles. The fuel filter will show a fair amount of black in the pleats. It will look kinda spotty. If it's solid black it is definatly time to change it.

Nope, you're fine. I'd run one more batch of dino through it for 1000 miles or so, jsut to get any residual garbage and then put the synthetic in.

And yes, the oil will be black almost as soon as you change it. If you start it, go around the block, come back and check it, it wil be black.

And, like mentioned above, the fuel filter will look spotty. Change it every 10K and you'll be good to go.

Mix of Power Service Diesel Kleen (PSD) and either Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) or 2 stroke oil. Named oafter our very own Drew.

In each tank I usually put 16 oz of 2 stroke and 16 oz of PSD. Everybody seems to have their own mixture.

The engine is noticeably quieter, smoother idle and decreased smoke output.

The best fuel filter to use is a Baldwin PF 7977, its nominal at 2 microns and absolute at 5 microns) and if you cant get one then get the Fleetguard Stratapore FS19856 is nominal at 5 microns and 96% efficient at 7 microns. Don't let anyone sell you a 10 micron fuel filter ( in june of 2006 Cummins wanted all 2003 and up engines to use a 7 micron fuel filter) as some places still sell them like, Wix 33585 is nominal at 10 microns, Wix 33585XE is nominal at 7 microns, Donaldson P550785 is absolute at 10 microns. The smaller the number the better it filters. FYI, Absolute is 98.7% efficiency and nominal is 50% efficiency.

I've been running it since about 35k... word of caution... if you plan to run it long duration >7500 miles, get the oil sampling done, had an issue with mine where the oil did not last much past 10 and had to flush the motor to clean it out. One thing to mention here was the frequency of the off roading during that period... lots of it. not sure if that had anything to do with it or not but thought I should mention it.

also, gives me approx .75 mpg better IMO (there is a mpg thread in my sig with all the data).

Did he say why to wait on the Amsoil ATF in the trans? I put Amsoil in mine when I did my first serviced it at 10K. So far with Amsoil and Mopar fluid mixed I've not had any problems from it in the past 14K that the 2 fluid have been mixed.
