buckskin, My 2 cents on that is.

The grid heaters are there primarily for emissions reasons, the EPA cold start cycle.

Tell that to those who have to start there trucks at -20 below zero or colder in the wintertime becasue they can't plug the engine block heater in at work!

Man I'd LOVE to find out if that's true. I was always under the impression that you needed the heater.

that grid heater is there for a reason. . .and yes it is for starting the engine. it makes sure the first gulps of air the cylinders take in are warm to help in the ignition of the diesel. if it were up to the epa and emissions we would have glow plugs.

Cummins grid heater delete it is available at any cummins dealer the part number is 3922484. I just read about one person who bought one from Cummins for $31.77

From what I read you don't see any thing from the grid delete until after 1900 RPM's and then its only 6 HP/15 TQ and 10 HP/20 TQ after 2200 RPM's. My self I don't run my engien up at thoses RPM's very often.

Well I don't understand, if the truck has to have it to start properly, why does cummins offer the grid heater delete?

DBLR, Ya I read and looked at the dyno numbers also. I pull allot so it will help mesince my powerband is 1900 - 2100 RPM. So if the CFM+ @ 1900 RPM gives you 57.7 HP / 159.53 tq and you add the 10 extra HP and the 20 ft/tq it does add up...... The old saying every little bit helps.

Firemedic740, The only way a grid heater helps is before starting by heating a small gulp of air to help start up. You can go read all about the EPA cold start emissions. Think about how much air your truck pulls. Know do you think a little 3" X 3" grid heater can heat that much air that fast. Name: grid_vs_delete.jpg

But in a nutshell It does not get -20 below in south Ms. For that manner it does not get 20 deg. So I am pulling mine off when I add the CFM+.

Well I just called the wife and see said the CFM+ made it today. I can not wait to get home next week and see what it does. I will put it on and maintenance my truck prior to leaving for the Outer Banks NC, Thursday, Then the week after that we will be going to and through the mountains. I will put that extra HP and Tq to the test. I will take some pics of the install. I also will have my lap top with me as always and will post a update of how much differences it made pulling a load. I must say it is a little hard for me to believe the dyno numbers on the torque. But one thing for sure I will find out............

if it's anything like the ATS, you will be happy with it... when I swapped back to stock while doing the mpg thread, I couldnt believe the difference (loss) there was when going to the stock manifold
