I am getting about 17.5 mpg hand calculated with 65% city and 35% hwy (no interstate). What is your hemi getting and under what driving conditions?
Whenever I'm easy with my hemi, I get 8 to 11 miles to the gallon in city and I get 14 to 16 miles to the gallon in highway. Mostly, im driving 85% in city and 15% on highway. I should have gotten diesel in the past because i didnt know that trucks use diesels so i realized it that they get very good mileage. Did you know that i have done calculations on gas vs. diesel. For my hemi, i nearly paid $3,700 a year and if i have diesel, i would have paid nearly $2200 a year which is about $1,500 a year differences. YOu know.

16 Isn't bad when you consider I drivein the parking lot known as Southern California. I swear every driver replaced the gas and brake pedals with toggle switches! My 1500 Z71 only got 13 mpg.
16 mpg isnt bad however I cannot afford gas in hemi because hemi eats too much gas.

I normaly average between 16.9-19.1 depending on driving habits and whats going on. going back and forth to work and running around 16.9-18.1 is the norm. if I'm traveling for a while Ive had a low of 17.7 and a high of 19.1 for a tank.

if your pulling loads diesel is the way to go. however if your not going to pull much you may want to consider staying with the hemi.

I get around 2400 miles per tank. That is if I use the 90 gallon auxilary tank and I'm not towing.

Fuel eceonomy depends on what year truck, what drive line, HOW YOU DRIVE IT, fuel quality, service habits, air pressure in tires, wind speed and direction. The list goes on and on, but these are the major factors. For work I routinely get 19 - 20 MPG but my route is usually state higways were I run 50 - 60 mph. If you do 80 % city (stop and go) driving you will not get 19 mpg unless you buy a small car. Good luck in making your decision.

Here's the data in regards to all of my fillups since I purchased the truck in April of 2007 :

I haven't touched my truck since last month since I've been commuting with my motorcycle lately.

Just remember that not all diesel get good or great mpg. I can show you post where they would be very happy to get 16 mpg all of the time.

When was the last time you put any good fuel additives through your gas tank? I've learned that with todays gas you need to use some thing like 5 oz of Lucas at least once if not twice a month to clean up the plugs and injectors so that you can get good fuel mileage from your engien. When did you last check the air filter and the air in your tires? Also are you running wide low pro tires that eat up your mpg? Also if you use E-10/10% Alcohol blended gas you will get lower mpg any time you use it as it has lower BTU's then regular gas just like #1 diesel & Kerosene have lower BTU's then #2 diesel has.

i am up to 600 miles per tank
How do you maintain 600 miles per tank and is it possible to keep diesel going on for 600 miles but my question is that how did you do it?
i am 90% highway driving and i can be considered the "old lady" in the right lane doing 55 mph! diesel is too expensive to go fast

if your looking for a 3rd gen, 03-07 will be best since those are the last years of the 5.9L. in 07.5 the engine was changed to the 6.7L mainly due to all the emissions crap.
