New diesel engine - Did you see it in Diesel Power mag ??
On page 121 this month it's a story called "A Man and his Diesel". It's the story of a guy who built his own diesel engine from the ground up and it's pretty cool
Have you seen it?
If so, what are your thoughts?

WOW I didn't thik I was going to be able to find anything online about it, but here it is. It's REALLY cool !! He uses seperate jugs for each cylinder and it's designed to be as easy to work on as possible. I can't wait to see how he makes out with it !!

I thought Gleaner combines (AKA Silver Sided Pheasant Feeder) had a Duetz engine that had jugs for each cylinder and air cooled. I think it was an R-52 or R-62.
I saw the article. From what I remember he is going after the marine market with it. It sounds like a great idea, I hope it finds it's way into the automotive re-power market. One person assembles each engine which means it will be pretty pricy, but should also have a good effect on quality. They also dyno each engine before it leaves the factory to make sure it performs as it's supposed to, what a novel idea.
the Contenental AVDS twin turbo v12 engine that goes into the M88 track recovery vehicle uses a similar setup. it is air cooled and you can rebuild the engine one jug at a time.
I used to drive one of these. . .it had a lopey idle at times that was cool. . .and it had a built in smoke switch that would dump oil into the exhaust

I was watching a show chronicling Jay Leno reviving a Duesenberg and one thing he said caught me. He said he liked those cars because cars of that era were beautifully sculpted. They were built when labor was cheap and technology was expensive. Todays car have no "craftsmanship" because today technology is cheap and labor is expensive. That motor looks like a lot of labor! $$$$$$
I seen this. I think its a cool idea. You will be able to see just how good of a product it is when he's bought out by one of the big motor makers and the whole idea quietly disappears......
