Default Map Sensor

Has anyone ever had problems with a map sensor. I have an 02 ctd and have had a superchips a year agoand a smarty on it now. I can hammer it from a dead stop and it will run like a spotted @$$ ape untill about 65mph and fall on its face ...... then I have too let my foot all the way off the pedal and get on it again and it falls on its face at 75or 80. Then next time I take off it wont go.It seems to be worst when its hot then cold. I know a guy who has the same problem and has put 2 diff injector pumps on the same truck and still has the problem. I have a 150GPH FASS with the bigger fuel lines and the stock injector pump. I have tested the pressure from the pump and it was all within specs. Any help would be app and thanks in advance.

When you say with in specs for fuel pressure what is your WOT pressure??? (Min Pressure is 10 PSI)

As for MAP sensor I would say try cleaning it. They normally don't go bad...

Is your boost building properly? Wastegate isn't opening early is it?

Mopar Man I noticed on your list of failures was an apps sensor. Whats the point of this sensor and where is it located? What did your truck do when it went out........ I think when I wrote this post I got the app sensor and map sensor mixed up. A guy at the local dealership told me what it could be over the phone. Oh yeah and the fuel pressure was 12 to 14 psi off the side of the injector pump. I am not sure about the boost or wastegate but I can get the code from my smarty and post them when I get home tomorrow.

Really easy...

Look at #2... When the APPS sensor goes out it will act just like the VP44 going out. It will have a dead pedal that is random. But the only difference between the to failures is that the APPS sensor will throw a P0121 or a P0122. The VP44 will throw a P0215, P0216, P0251, P0253, P0254, P1688, or P1689...

Error code are extremely helpful at figuring out the problems...

Thanks guys Im still in the hospital, but am going home today. When I get home I am going to hook up the smarty and see if its showing some codes. MoparMan I just want to say you have one hell of a Website. It has been a big help in me try to figure the problem out and helping me figure out what mods I want to do for fuel milage. Again very nice site. All of the people on hereamaze me of the knowledge they have and the ways they find to put on here..

Ok I made it home and hooked up the smarty to read the codes........p0216 and p1693. The smarty says 0216 is an injection pump timing failure and so does the codes part of the forum. but the smarty and the forum are diff on the 1693 code. ................ well I guess I will start with the vp44 then the apps sensor. What pisses me off is that all I want is for the smarty to work with no problems and the only time the truck acts up is with the tuners pluged in to it. I would not think I could get a bad superchips and a year later just randomly get a bad smarty too.

If it was me I would return the the truck to stock software and clear the codes. Then from there on out I would watch for the code to return (P0216) if it does the I would say its time for a new injection pump. Not to mention time to start using 2 cycle oil in your fuel...
