Default Vege oil blues, code 1693,0177,0230,1691..

My VP44 is bad but its got me to work for a year. so I made some bio-diesel, run great. 90 deg.+ here in S A Texes, so I pured in waste vegetable oil, runs good. On a cool morning 2 miles from home it died. I've drained and wiped out the fuel tank and filter canister, poured in new diesel.pumped it through to the injectors. My lift pump wont work, I can use jump wires and it pumps at 14 psi. I've used 3 cans of starting fluid + gas rags but it wont run on its own. I disconected the batterys for 24 hrs and get codes PCU 1693, ECU 0177, 0230, 1691, 0370. Wife not happy, she has to get up earyer to take me to work. When I hook the batterys up the fuel pump works one time. I loosend the injector lines at the head and fuel pumps out. But wont run...

Starting fluid and intake heaters could be hazardous to your and your trucks health.[sm=nothatway.gif]

when's there been a cool morning here in SA? I dont work so I'm up till about 9 am before I go to sleep and i can't remember the last cool morn. Its was pretty damn hot today, gotta love it when you're past the max UV scale. Gonna go up to camp bullis to take the dogs for a walk tomorrow.
Maybe pm jimmy diablo, he's been running on veggie oil for a while, maybes he's encountered similar problems. You prolly screwed up by getting the oil from. Church chicken ugh. LOL.
Good luck.

PCU 1693, ECU 0177, 0230, 1691, 0370.

1693 - Companion error code.
0177 - Water In Fuel -Excess water found in fuel by water-in-fuel sensor.
0230 - Transfer Pump (Lift Pump) Circuit Out of Range. Problem detected in fuel transfer pump circuits.
0370 -Fuel Injection Pump Speed/Position Sensor Sig Lost. Problem caused by internal fuel injection pump failure.
1691 - Fuel Injection Pump Controller Calibration Error Internal fuel injection pump failure. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.

Yeap you killed it with the VO... Your looking at a new VP44 pump for sure...

I suggest you get out of the veggie oil idea... It might prove to be more costly than its worth...

Thanks for the codes. So a rebuilt pump should do it. I thought maybey the brain is confused from all the starting fluid. So is my vp44 not pumping enough presure to opperate injectors? I seen a kit of seals for $59 on Ebay, has anyone tryed it? I was hoping I just cloged the pump up or the injectors.

I thought 65 deg. is cold, not enough to cause problems for vetetable oil. And the only time I wait for the heater coils is around 10 - 15 deg. This 02 has over 400k miles, half in northern states and Canada.

You might have to pull the injectors out and have them pop tested too... If the injectors are gummed up you might be looking at both injectors and injection pump... The injection pump CANNOT be rebuilt by you... You must have the special equiptment to rebuild the VP44 and re-tune it... As for starting fluid you should NEVER use starting fluid in a Cummins! The grid heater could ignite it in the intake and cause serious damage...

Normally WVO should be heated to 120-140*F before using... So I'm beting that the oil has turned semi-solid on you and its plugged up the injection pump and injectors... Injectors are about $400 to $600 and the VP44 is about $1,200 to $1,600 to replace...

Not to be hard on you... But this is the only reason I never got into homebrew BIO or using WVO... Its just too risky...[sm=smiley24.gif]

I think it's pretty obvious that ch2002 fuel system is a gone'r but it is possible to run WVO and bio in a VP44 truck. I've been running B20 for almost ayear.
