Default First time pullin the boat

Well took the 19 foot Mastercraft to Conneaut Lake this weekend. The truck seemed to pull it great other than two problems that I had. The first one was that every bump that the trailer hit it would shake the hole truck. Im not sure if it is because of the suspension being stiff from the lift or what but every bumpy road would make the trailer shake the hell out of the truck. The other problem that I had was that about 5 times on the way up with the boat and about 10 times on the way back with just the trailer i lost all throttle response which im almost certian that it is my injection pump. I am going to check for the dreaded p0216 tomorrow when i go into work. Here is a pick of it all hooked up Friday in front of the garage before I left.

Check your tongue weight / trailer set up for the shaking thing. Not sure on the throttle response. If it was a third gen truck I would say have the APPS checked out. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I am not a tow expert but by the pic it seems the hitch has to much of a drop?

You want the trailer to sit level. So, his drop is about right. I've pulled a trailer with the tounge a little high and it made the truck bounce up and down really bad. I've pulled the same trailer with other trucks that had a lower hitch height. With the trailer in a more level position, it pulls much smoother. The trailer uses a pintle hitch...and I don't have a drop hitch for that.[:@]

I had the same kind of thing happen. Check your U bolts on the trailer. Somehow mine backed off a half an inch and allowed the trailer's axle more movement that it should have. I replaced the U bolts and everything is good.

I will have to check out the U-bolts to make sure they are tight. My fuel mileage dropped all the way to 13 mpg while pulling the boat which I guess isn't that bad since I usually get 15mpg. The weird thing about the trailer is that my dad usually pulls it with his Grand Cherokee and it doesn't make his jeep bounce around at all. I happened to think today that maybe if I would have had my tire pressures at 35 psi instead of 40 psi then maybe that would have helped some too. Maybe I could have had too much air in them and they created a basketball effect when the trailer hit a bump? Just a thought. I checked for codes this morning and found the P0216 which is fuel injection pump timing failure. Tomarrow morning I am going to look the code up on the shop computer for the diagnostic checks to make sure that it is for sure that the pump is bad. If this is the case then i guess i am going to be looking for a deal on a pump.[:@] Seems like just when you start to get ahead then something else goes wrong that has to be fixed!

pintle hooks have more verticle space for it to bounce, well generally it does. Surprise such a small trailer would use a pintle, usually you see those on big *** trucks towing somthing fierce.

Ive never had an issue with my half ton pulling my 20ft pontoon an it has to weight a lot more than that boat.

im not using a pintle to pull it just a 11 inch drop ball mount. the trailer was almost exactly level.
