Default G56 Tranny Flush

Hello all, was a long time TDR member when i had my diesel but back in 06 bought my Hemi 2500 TRX4. So far have had no issues with the truck but I do have 60K on the clock now. I was going to flush my G56 Tranny last night and found that I have a couple questions. On my old 5 speed in the 01 there was no drain plug, you just removed the bottom bolt on the PTO cover to drain the fluid. Now this G56 looks too have two 14mm hex bolts one on the upper passenger side and one on the very bottem of the case. I am assuming these are the fill and drain locations? The bottom hex bolt also looks to be covered up by the drivers side exhaust running under the tranny and gear box, anyway around this? Also would I need to remove the PTO covers at all on the G56? and if so what type of socket should be used, the bolts have heads that I dont think I have ever seen before.. Thanks in advance!

sounds like with your 01 you had either the NV4500HD or the NV5600.

the G56 is I'm right on this, you would drain through the plug on the bottom, then fill through the normal plug. . .however I do hear that many people get better shifting from their G56 when they pour half to a full quart through the shift tower.

BTW, TDR member since 04

Drain from bottom 14mm plug. There are 2 more identicle plugs on the passengers side of the trans. The one about half way up is the fill port. The one at the top is something to do with the shift forks don't remove it. PTO covers do not need to be removed either. BTW, I found some metal shavings on my drain plug magnet, from talking to several others with the G56 this is not uncommon. I am going to change mine in another 10k again just to check up on it.

What side is the drain plug on? I thought it was on the passenger side.

The drain is on the bottom center, the filler plug is on the passenger side about half way up.
