used 2005 chip removed
hi, i have a new to me 2005 2500 big horn with 35000 miles.
now, a guy from work took a look at it, and showed me some velcro on top of my fuse box.
he said this is where a chip used to be.
my question is, if I get a new chip and it's not the same as the old one, can that mess stuff up? and also if the chip was removed was it reseetto factory settings?
also the truck smokes like crazy if i git on it. and it's way faster than my buddies auto.
thanks for lookin at my post!

I know the Edge mounts there, sounds like the chip was taken off and not removed from the computer. I would try to find the previous owner and have a talk with him. I did that to acquire the superchip that was on mine and am now removing it for an Edge.

You could always have the dealer reflash the ecm, that way you know its all back to stock programming.

so is the dealer the only one who can flash the ecm? cuz if i take to a dodge dealer for this its gonna ruin my warranty right?

I'm not gonna put the images, they are straight from my Gallery

Look for a hole drilled in your manifold for an EGT probe that has been plugged or just had the wires cut off the probe. This is not necessarilly a bad thing if it is there.....I'd be more concerned knowing it had a box / programmer and DIDN'T have an EGT probe.
EGT Probe in Manifold
Lastly, I'd be a little concerned not knowing what programming is on the truck right now, ESPECIALLY if you have no gauges to monitor boost and, more importantly, EGT's.
Also, if you decide to put a programmer or box on the truck, some of them do not stack well together (which is what you might be doing if there is other than stock programming in the ECM). I would "talk" (hint, hint, cash flow helps) to a Service Manager and see if they will "re-flash" your ECM.
It's all based on your comfort level. Personally, I want to know what my truck is doing and what has been done to it.

also there is a threaded metal object plugging another small hole in the manifold. is this normal?
everyone, thanks so much for all your help!!
I sent ya a PM.
Take a picture so we can see what you are looking at.
More than likely it was another EGT probe that was hooked to something else, like a stand alone EGT gauge or a water / meth injection setup. OR they botched the first drill / tap and had to do another.
Looks like your truck "may" have had some tinkerin' done to it..........
Give me a call if ya need too.
