Default High level air intake needed

Hi all,

I work in the Sahara and have 5 Dodges here all 5.9 diesels, three are 3rd gen units and I am trying to find a high level air intake kit for them, I use air filters almost one a week when its bad.

Any idea where I can them in the US? I have a supplier who can ship so thats not a problem.

They do get used and abused out here, but the engines bullet proof, which is more than can be said for the front drivetrain, and the body work. Anyway any pointers for air intakes would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

First, Welcome to the forum.

Do you want an entire air intake or just good filters.

If you just want filters, than check out Geno's Garage at www.genosgarage.com

That where most of us go for air, fuel, oil filters, etc.

If you want a whole intake, then from the sound of it, you NEED a BHAF (literally...Big Honkin' Air Filter) setup. Most of the aftermarket intakes are geared toward performance more than protection, so you're gonna be compromising on clean air.

For the BHAF, check this link. It's a write up that Drew did of the install.

Thanks for the welcome Cumminalong

That certainly is a big filter compared with the original one, what I am actually after is like you get for the Land Rover or Land Cruiser, its a pipe that comes from the air box inlet and runs through the side and runs up to the roof.
This then draws air in at the roofline away from the dust and sand in the wheelarch cavity.

I had one on my Land Rover a few years back so i could run with the engine under water before I went to V8 power.

I've been looking for a snorkel for my truck as well. I would like to buy one from www.ARBUSA.combut they don;t have one availabe for our trucks , oh well. I guess we just have to fab one up out of PVC or ABS plastic pipe .

Donaldson filters.... Good enough for the M1 Abrams tank in the desert good enough for your trucks.

oh yeah they also make reloc kits as well and have pre filters as well to help extend the life of the main filter.

Ahhhhh, okay, I got ya now. You want a snorkel kit for it.

I thought you were talking about an underhood intake kit.

Lemme see what I can dig up.

Okay, from what I'm seeing, there is no off the shelf snorkel for these trucks.

The closest I could find was this, made by Safari. You may be able to adapt the kit to a stock airbox.

Best bet would be to check out Safari site. Here is a link to the Jeep sections (They have a few Hemi kits that may get you close)

Just click the Red X, the picture will open....
