last time I posted one of these threads in the OT section some unwelcome comments were made... never again.

do you have a link by any chance to the thread your talking about?
Steve, I meant to paste this link to my previous post: https://dodgeforum.com/m_1322461/tm.htm

Personally, I like these OT posts in the CTD forum. You have some great pics from your trip, and I'll bet most of our members have never been to Yosemite.

it was discussed a while back that the OT thread would be ok as long as we identified it as an OT thread. Probably the best thing for me to do is go to Patrick & Amanda and get the rulings from the keepers themselves.

Great pictures steve. I don't see a problem with you posting the pics as we haven't heard anything since the big post. Are you using a Nikon SLR Digital Cam? I'm thinking about buying one and seeing the quality of those pics I think I'm sold.
yup, D200 Nikon with an 18-200mm Nikor lens (VR model). I'm actually considering selling it to switch over to the D300...

A photo tip for everyone here using a DSLR... when your metering an outdoor shot, if you have concrete or a grey rock to meter off of which is in front of your subject, use it. Regardless of what the meter says when you point it back to your subject, you will be pretty darn close to what your after. An exception being a heavily shaded area. This is how I meter just about all of my shots you see here and 99% of the time they are awesome. None of these shots are photoshoped or post processed in any way (no time to do it even if I thought it needed it).

That is a beautiful place tere steve... makes me wish I was somewhere else right now .
It is sweet to have it 3~3.5 hours away from home... the other favorite spots are even closer and I can bring the dog [sm=happybounce.gif]

I do to !!

As long as the title states that the thread is OT, I don't see a problem with it at all. I'd HATE to see this forum regulated like so many of those other forums that I USED to belong to.

As I'm finding out all the details here, it seems that some threads got outa hand here in this forum, from what I'm gathering while talking with the other mods, OT threads are ok as long as they dont get out of hand. imagine a class room full of 10~12 year olds... they chat at an acceptable level for a while, then it gets louder & louder, to the point where it is now so loud you can hear it down the hall... anyone in their right mind will step in to restore order in the room. same thing applies here. keep it at an acceptable level and everyone should be happy. in other words, be smart about it.

Steve............Man, those pic's are killin me!!! WOW.....I'm like so jealous that you have the Sierra's so close to your home. Breath taking is all I can think of.

Almost a life time ago, back when I was 30, Myself and 2 friends hiked the entire John Muir trail, from south to north. 250 miles, 26 days on the trail, including the pull outs for refurbishments. It took us what seemed like over 48 hours of constant, near non stop driving to get there.

Man, your pic's really brought back some GREAT memories. And to think that IF this thread was over in the OT section, I'd probably NEVER have come across it!

Thanks Steve, that made my day.

I highly recommend it... the best parts are away from the tourist sites. takes some work to get back there (hiking) but it's worth it.
