Default Smarty questions

Okay, I have been running the last week or so on the 40hp. Mileage seems to be a little better, will know when I fill up today. The description says I should be able to tow up to GCWR even at the highest setting (100hp). Put in the high setting program last night and run it around a little and the extra power is cool, but the extra smoke won't be good on a crisp, white camper, so I will go back to either stock or the 40hp setting. I do have 2 questions When loading a program, about 2/3 into it I can hear the in tank fuel pump cycle on/off repeatedly. Is this normal? And 2, anyone know what the torque ratings are to go with the hp ratings? 40hp,70hp, and 100hp. Would like to know how much torque is added when selecting a particular hp setting. Heading up north today to do some fishing and shooting styroform deer. They don't taste to good, but they will not move and let you shoot at them for days!

when i downloaded a level the other day i heard bad noises coming from the fuel pump also, i wouldnt tow with the smarty on any level if you have a stock clutch, i am no expert but i have had a smarty for about 2 weeks and i left level 3 90 horse, and my clutch is smoked, have only 44000 miles on truck clutch was perfect before smarty, slips on every level 1 2 3 and obviously any level above that, and i have towed nothing, just a heads up, if you want to keep your stock clutch keep it on stock, i cant accelerate as soon as you get on it and boosts up clutch slips the smarty says level 5 is the highest safe level for manual, yeah right. as far as the fuel pump, i wasnt too pleased a bout that, i heard i tbeating the crap out of it but was to scared to stop the download in fear of messing up the computer now i gotta drop 2 grand for a good clutch

the lift pump cycling is completely normal and doesn't hurt a thing. It can be annoying but, it's part of programmer the ECM.

Level #3 is safe for a stock auto trans. The torque manangement in still in place and your truck will defuel before causing any damage to the trans. The TQ ratings my be slightly higher but, not enough to be a concern.

05Cummins : Your clutch is 3 yrs old. I think you had problems coming before the Smarty.Again, the torque management is in place to help protect the trans. This is a stock thing that the Smarty can eliminate but, I doubt you guys are running the software that does that.
You also should have known that by adding a programmer you've pay to play and we all know if you play you pay. Suck it up, get a quality clutch and have fun with the truck.

Like Ty said, the fuel pump noise is a normal part of the download.

It will be on for the first 50% of the download and then it cycles for the rest of it. Nothign to worry about.

Also, your clutch was giving up the ghost before that. It is more than capable of handling thost lower power levels.

Also, Ty hit the nail on the head.......you play, you pay, get the supporting mods or all the power in the world does nothing.

Let me ask this, what's better the Smarty or the Jr?
The Jr is more for someone who doesn't want a bunch of settings to deal with. It has 3 and is gear towards better fuel mileage and towing.
The Sr, with the right mods to your truck will offer 230hp gains, many more options with a lot more hp. You have to have to right stuff done to your truck though to get the most out of it.

FYI... niether are available for the 6.7 yet

I am running the Smarty jr. I have forced myself to drive normal while doing some mileage tests. No holeshots or speedshifts yet. What I did find so far is stock I got 17.5 mpg, with the smarty on economy I got 20.3. This is running short trips around the house, no expressway with the longest trip being 15 miles. With my fifth wheel and boat hooked up for a 200 mile trip down the freeway with small hills I got 13.4 mpg. This is hand calculated. Not to much of a fan of the extra smoke, being that the whole side of my dually fender is now black. Running the tow program now to see what mileage I get. Got another trip with the 5'er next week, will be going back to economy for this tow.

I love my Smarty jr., I have yet to see any amount of smoke while pulling the TT. Just got back from a week of camping. With the 35" tires and 6" lift pulling through some long grades and a head wind on the way out, I saw a puff when the o/d kicked out. Running up one grade at 60mph, she was doin 2200rpm pulling about 32psi with egts at 1150*F, I got10.4mpg. The return trip, she ran at 65mph at 1650rpm, boost at 8-12psi ad egts at 900*F all in the tow/haul
mode, and the Smarty set at the "tow mode" 70hp. Mileage on the return trip netted me about 12.5mpg, TT weighs in at 10245lbs (weighed her at the DOT scales).

Have any of you guys with the Sm jr. downloaded the lastest upgrade? Marco has been made aware of the excessive smoke and has recently rewritten the program which has reduced the smoke.
