Rokktech sensor traceable?
Well guys, I was just about ready to make the plunge and get theQuad milage max to improve my MPG. ThenI read the sticky that Parts/ Service posted about traceability of chips and their potential impact on warranties. I don't want to take the risk on my 06 with 15k miles on it.
But I am still looking for any mpg's I can squeeze out of my CTD. I don't need any more power.
So I am looking at the Rokktech crank sensor. Looks easy to install so should be easy to remove when I go to the dealer. My question is, since it can advance the timing 2 degrees, electronicaly, Does the on board computer record that info and can that info be recovered bya dealer that is looking for it? Or as mentioned by someone on this forum, can it be retrieved by Dodge or Cummins thru a computer hook up?
I would appreciate any input espaecially from Parts/Sevice or any of youDodge or Cummins mechanics.

the Rokk is not detectable, however you might consider an edge or tst that would go between the motor & the pcm. not detectable in the pcm since it's not a downloader. the install is 20~30 min max. I get 1.5~2.0 mpg better with my mods & TST installed (overall).

The rokk tek hasn't done anything for me[:@]

When I installed it, I went according to the directions and have advanced it in increments and still no difference. I have it back to the original start position now so that it won't mess with the Edge.
Sorry it took a while to get back to you guys on this. I live in the middle of all these fires going on herein northern Calif. Had to get the big Dodge hooked up to the fiver so we are ready to bail out if we get the call.
SteveOram, I am a nubie at this stuff so bear with me. If I understand you correctlya programer that is not a downloader (like the Edge)sends info diectly to the motor and doesn't go through or change the programing in the trucks onboard stock computer (the PCM?) Is that the same as an ECM which is the term I am used to seeing on my older vehicles?
If that is correct, I assume the pcm must still be reading the results/effects on the motor that thenondownloader(edge, etc) programming is changing. I.E timing, pressure, boost, egt etc. since the pcm has not been disabled.
If theEdge or other nondownloaderis removed to take the truck to a dealer then the performance settings go with theEdge and at that point everything is back to stock settings. Am I right so far?
Ok if I am right so far here is where I don't have a clue. If the pcm was reading what was going on with the motor when the downloader programer was installed, doesn't the pcm have a memory? If it does isn't there info about the modified performance parameters stored in it?
I guess if there is no memory in the pcm then as soon as the Edge, etc. is removed then all is back to stock and there is no footprint left.

Hey RIDGEMAN, are the fires near you? I'm in San Diego and we went through that last fall. The trailer was hooked-up, full of water and ready to go. My wife and I slept in shifts. Scary times, good luck to you.
