2010 is just the next round of emissions regs, there was an "intermediate" round in effect for 2007. Just do a little google searching on it, basically this first round involved ULSD and the crankcase emissions now have to be included in the tailpipe emissions that's why the particulate filters and EGR showed up. 2010 it just gets more fun.

so what happens to all of the older trucks, older than 2007? are they held to the standard that was in place for that model year?

Everywhere except CA and a few other communist states.

BTW the car companies had plenty of time to get this right for 2007. They just didn't! The reason these emissions systems are so crappy is because the automotive companies go with the CHEAPEST solution to maximize profits, then they beat 5% more per year out of their suppliers price. The bad thing is they have not yet learned that this practice leads to loss of profits, because of pissed off customers. We can put a man on the moon, and send satellite to meet up with a comet flying at 28K miles per hour hundreds of thousands of miles away, but we can't produce a reliable effecient emissions system. Gimmy a break!

Both of those accomplishments cost significantly more than you (or anyone else) would be willing to pay for a vehicle.

it's a sad thing to say but the days of the diesel being the ultimate engine I think may be over. I wished for awhile I couldve afforded a new CTD but now with all the problems these trucks are having to be honest i'm much happier with my gasser.

You will not have any luck with Chrysler. I have been in the process of a buyback for afew months now and am so pi$$edI want to choke them. The CEL problems are well known and they cant fix them. Mine was in 9 times in 15000miles all in a 6 month period. I've been dealing with ISG for a month now and dont know anymore about where we stand than I did when this all began. They are terrible at communication, often not returning calls or notifying me when changes have occurred that require me to jump through the next hoop to keep the ball rolling. I still dont know for sure how much allowance they will give me for my truck, and they require that I trade for a new dodge, msrp to msrp, so I may be priced out of a vehicle. I've driven dodge trucks exclusively for the last 10 years, but in 2 years when it's time for a new one all that is over.
