Can I burn #2 heating oil in my Cummins?
I have about 175 gallons of #2 heating oil that has been stored indoors for about 30 years. It's a clear amber color and smells like, well, heating oil! If I filter it, can I safely burn in in my Ram CTD? I'd sure like to be able to have eight hundred bucks worth of free fuel!

This stuff isn't even dyed red, it's a clear, amber color. As to whether it's still potent after all these years, that's my main concern. It sure looks & smells OK.
It's been in my basement fuel oil tank ever since I switched to electric heat back in the mid 70's. The oil embargo raised the price all the way up to 65 cents a gallon, so I switched to electric heat.

If I were going to try and run it, I think I would blend it at a low ratio at first. Check mileage and note if the truck ran normally. Then I would slowly increase the ratio and keep tabs on it. If it is bunk you will note a decline in economy, and or lack of power / rough idle. Good luck and let us know how it runs.

Well maybe pour an oz onto a plate and an oz of diesel on another plate and light em on fire, if there's a noticible dif in flame intensity and duration then I wouldnt use it. Or maybe at a 80-20 blend.
Just make sure to mix it before you put it in your truck. Or at least take a 10 gal tank and put 50-50, stir and then pour.
