gooseneck hitch
Hello,
Does anyone have any experience installing a gooseneck hitch in a 2005 Ram 2500 Quad cab short beddiesel? I have a popup ball hitch and the instructions look pretty clear. As far as I can tell the hardest part will be cutting the hole in the bed. The instructions show the ball being about 3 inches forward of the real axle. Will I have a problem with myhorse trailer hitting the back of my cab? My trailer does not hit on my 99 Ram shortbed, but the ball is directly over the rear axle on the 99.
THANKS,
David

from what i have heard, the bolt on gooseneck hitches are relatively simple to put in.
there are several 3/4 and 1 ton shortbeds in my area with goosenecks and i have never heard of a problem. i have heard that ideally the gooseneck ball should be between 2-4 inches in front of the rear axle.

I have a 06 2500 quad cab short bed with a B&W turnover ball. Not a hard install, just measure twice before you put that hole saw to the bed of your truck!! I tow a horse trailer and no problems with cab clearnace but my trailer is tapered back on the nose. If your trailer has a wide flat nose I would check it close in a parking lot with someone helping you watch just to be sure how far you can turn. They sell a setback hitch for your trailer if you do have a problem.
Thanks guys,
My trailer is a tapered nose, so hopefully I wont have a problem. On my 99 I can put the truck and trailer at about 95 degrees before the trailer will hit the cab. Since the ball is a little more forward on the 05 I will be sure test it out once I install the hitch.
