A/C clutch or compressor fried????
Did a search for my problem, lots of good info but not quite it. So here goes. Took a atrip to Disneyland from N. Calif. Had the A/C cranking the whole time there and back bout 6.5 hrs each way avg temp 95-100 deg. The next day go to take the boat out and try to cool the interior down from 95 deg weather and all she is doing is blowing hot air. I don't hear the normal clunk associated with the A/C clutch engagement.Checked all fuses and relay and all is well. Please help planning a trip to pismo soon and that'll be hell w/o A/C...thanks Alex....... sorry for the long post.
there are several threads on different forums about this same issue. IMO, I think our trucks are coming from the factory not only low on freon but, low on axle oil and engine oil.
Like Dave mentioned, a lack of freon will cause the compressor to not engage with a result of hot air blowing.
There are also a couple TSB's out about the A/C. One is about a rotten smell ( which is mold growing in the duct ) the other if for the damper door breaking or becoming stuck.
I would try charging the system to see if that takes care of your problem

Thabks for the replies guys. I thot that the clutch would not engage if the freon level was too low, but wasn't sure. I just bought a couple of r134a charge bottles and gonna try it out. I did read about the uneven airflow problems some folks were experiencing and I have that same problem ....which means I'm gonna have to yankk the dash out toget to the doors. Thanks again for the info and hope this works Alex
Parts/Service, Triton....just got done with the reccharge and the vents now are blowing cold again. Another question, the recharge took a total of about 46 oz of r134a (if my math is correct) to put me just into the blue area which on the packaging indicated full. Should I continue to fill until I get to the top of the blue section? because the gauge showed green which is low and then blue section was next, which meant full but at the bottom end of the blue spectrum. Hope it makes sense. Thanks again for the advice....Alex
I would leave it for know and monitor the level over the next couple of weeks. If you had to add that much, you may have a leak. The best way to find leaks is injecting a dye into the system and using a special light to find it.
Brian.....good advice and I'll keep any eye on that level.....do you know how many oz's should fill it to cvapacity? Thanks Alex

Thanks NickBeek.....found it, looks like only 14oz's are required for filling . I think I put at least 40 oz's in the thing(3 cans) . I thot it might be leaking but its holding to the same pressure the last few days. Is the guage a piece of crap ? How do I measure for refrigerant capacity not pressure? Thanks Alex
