5.9L was what i bought becuase of its history. The 6.7L just dosnt have a history. The power difference just isnt great enough tomakeup for that. Also i didnt want to mess with the emisions crap!

Have to agree with the majority. Go with the 5.9L. I compared a new 07 with the 6.7 to a used 06 with the 5.9L. Bought the 06. Didn't like the 6 speed auto and the jake brake. Also didn't like all the emissions junk. The 5.9L is much easier to mod. Bought my 06 with 25K on it; it felt way better than the new 07.

I liked the new auto and the built in jake brake- But I won't buy any diesel with emission crap- Ford, GM, or Dodge.

I bought 2, 06 Dodges 1) 8,500 miles 2) 26,000
Plenty of low mileage 5.9's out there.

I also picked the 5.9L over the 6.7L best thing I did last year. The sales man was trying to convince me to buy the 6.7L for the better torque. But my mind was made up, and I'm getting 20 to 21mpg. Love the truck.

Had an interesting conversation with a golf partner yesterday. He's the sales mgr. at one of the local Dodge Dealerships near my mother's place. We've been playing golf together for about a year and a half, maybe two or three times a month.
I've often inquired about trading my Hemi in on a diesel, I don't really need one, but I used to have a diesel and when I bought the Hemi while still living in Ga. I went in to buy a CTD, but NOBODY was dealing. As a matter of fact they had them marked UP from MSRP with that "adjusted market value" crap. So the Hemi, which stickered for $9k less, was actually $17k less after rebates and dealer discounts, haggling, etc. So I bought the Hemi. With the price of diesel fuel, now dealers are "dealing", so I asked.

Anyway, back to the part that fits in here. He told me point blank "You don't want a new CTD, the 6.7s are nothing but trouble" he went on to tell me that he's been a GM at two Dodge dealerships over that last 11 years and he's had to "Lemon Law Out" more 6.7l CTD's since mid '07 than all other trucks combined over the last 11 years.
He said he'd keep an eye out for a newer, mint 5.9 if I was seriously interested in a CTD. However, he said with what he'd have to offer me for my Hemi in trade, even with like $10k in mods, I'd not want play golf with him anymore...
Now I didn't ask how many he's had to lemon law. It could be that in 11 years he's only had to take back like three trucks and maybe that means he's only taken back four or five 6.7's, but still, coming from a DODGE SALES MGR., it would turn me off of one...

i actually like my 6.7 and all. I havnt had all the problems with mine as everyone else has. The 5.9 is a good motor as well and i know a few people that have them and love em. only 2 things i hate about the truck is all the emissions crap, cause i dont know what might tear up first lol, and the MPG, that sucks as well lol. I just read an article in the october DieselPower issue where they compared both motors. To my surprise the both came out about even. They tried them stock and with aftermaket intake, programmer, and exhaust on them. If ya happen to see it somewhere pick it up and check it out.

one of the reasons i bought my 6.7 is the fact that cummins obviously builds good motors (the 5.9), and dodge/cummins haven't changed that combo for some time (can someone tell me when the 5.9 first came out?). unlike ford and the 7.3/6.0/6.4 in a short peroid of time for ex. i really wonder if the problems that some people are having aren't more to blame on the new emmisions and not so much the motor, not that it really makes that easier to deal with. i just have to have faith that this new cofig will prove itself in the end and hopefully become a fave like the 5.9?
any thoughts?
