Default afe cai

thinking about putting an afi stage 2 with dry filter on my 07 with a 5.9. not really concerned about more power, but want to lower egt and raise mpg. anyone tried it or others, what were results? thx,,,,

afe makes good filters. Have you looked at the s&b setup? I know people that have had them and love them.

have the afe stage 2 with the proguard 7 filter... lost mileage due to a loss in low end torque with the setup at the time, upper end breathing improved significantly as well as upper end HP. it's a trade off depending on which filter you get (stage 2 has a massive filter compared to the stage 1)...

found in the DIY thread at the top.

I would leave it as is and go with an ATS Arc Flo intake http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/...InManifold.asp

look at my mpg thread listed in my sig and look for the stock intake vs ats intake mpg #'s... I lost approx .75 mpg IIRC going back to the stock intake elbow (goes to the intake manifold). I also was not happy with the performance loss. needless to say the ats went back on pretty quick.

there are others like the ats and I have no experience with them... I"m happy with what I have so no need to change. when I installed the ATS there was a noticeable bump in low-end torque, and from my point of view, if you can feel it in a 7000 lb truck it's a good thing.

yup, I would... if the current setup gave you +3, you might pick up another .5~1.0 using the ATS or similar. If you look to change the exhaust, be careful... open it up too much & you'll loose the low end torque that gets you your mileage. same thing goes for the intake side.

having messed with both ends multiple times, I found that (like the gassers) if you open the flow up your upper end hp will go up but your lower end will tend to go down (normal driving, not full throttle). All of my mods were intended to help day to day driving and I'm currently happy with it as it sits.

oh, also, larger (& heavier) tires will kill your mileage... if I had the stockers on I'd be in the 20's on a regular basis.

lol funny guy. you will love it. as i mentioned when I pulled mine off for my mpg thread, I couldnt get it back on there fast enough... stock sucks.

before you do the install I recommend finding a way to measure your gains on a hill or something, then do the install and re-compare. It was clear the ats worked awesome on my commute in to work while climbing 2500' each day. I'd put the flashpaq back to stock for your testing... sometimes it's hard to see a gain when you bump up the power so much. what I mean is if you have 750 ft lbs of tq and add 70 it might be harder to tell than if your back to stock and only have 600... get my drift?

my hills were too far for testing when I did my install, what I noticed immediately was that when passing on 2 lane roads, the truck didn't down shift like it did with the stocker. that was telling me that there was more low end torque...

anyways, post back here with your opinion on it... (or pm me)

hey steve, finally got the arc flo, put it on last week. i did a 220 mile test run the day before, then installed it and did same run the next day, all freeway with some hills at 73mph, and showed .4 mpg gain. am happy with it, you can feel better response too. goin to town at 50mph, you see a big increase, like 2-3 mpg, at a steady pace, but when you hit town, reality comes back. thx for the suggestion, plus got another sticker for the tool box!!
