Looking to buy a 2002 ram 2500 CTD.
are there any real known problems with the 2002 models? I know the lift pumps are a little weak and other basic dodge issues (tranny etc.) The one im looking at has the 5 speed manual though.

First of all do not run a filter that you have to oil. Replace the OEM lift pump with a FASS 150. Over all I love my truck and my dad has a 2000 CTD and we both would never trade them in. Good luck!

 

Daviscuda is right. Replace the OEM transfer pump right away with a FASS. This will make sure that you don't have any problems with your injector pump.

 

02's are pretty strong. Aside from the occasional steering problems that you hear here and there ( usually associated with a lifted truck ), the only other weaknesses are what you've pointed out which are the tranny ( auto ) and the lift pump. Since you're looking at a stick, replace the lift pump with a FASS and call it a day.
